Samundri: January 23, 2015. (PCP) All religions preach peace, tolerance, brotherhood, fraternity and respect for humanity. All religions and human beings are respectable. It is essential to promote social and religious harmony for the development of any society. This was expressed by the speakers Ms. Romana Bashir Executive Director Peace & Development Foundation, Professor Dr. Imtiaz Husaain Warriach, Principal Govt. Postgraduate College Samundri, Maulana Bahadur Ali Saif, Professor Dr. Amjad Hussain, Muhammad Tahir Poswal Advocate, President Bar Council Samundri and Professor Anjum James Paul, Chairman Pakistan Minorities Teachers’ Association and Head of the Political Science Department at Govt. Postgraduate College Samundri and Arif Gill in a training workshop on Interfaith harmony: A prerequisite for Just and Sustainable Peace arranged by Peace & Development Foundation in Samundri, Faisalabad. The speakers said it is the utmost need of the time to resolve all conflicts through peaceful initiatives. We must promote the culture of peace through protecting the rights of each individual without any discrimination. Pakistan is facing many challenges so it is our individual and collective responsibility to play our role for a better society. We have to remove all differences and must be proud of being Pakistani. The government of Pakistan must remove all literature from the textbooks which is promoting extremism in the Pakistani society and violate the National Action Plan 2014. It is needed to include chapters on peace, tolerance, acceptance, respect for humanity and respect for human rights.
The participants of the workshop were lawyers, educationists, Christian and Muslim religious leaders and 16 NGOs of the area. The participants actively participated in the training workshop and planned agenda for the activities that promote peace and interfaith harmony in their areas. At the end of the workshop certificates were awarded to the participants by Maulana Bahadur Ali Saif, Professor Anjum James Paul and Muhammad Tahir Poswal.
