Washington. An eight-member delegation of Pakistani-American Christian Coalition called on Ambassador Jehangir Karamat on March 7, 2006. The delegation discussed with the Ambassador issues of concern for the Christian community, including some recent incidents of violence against Christians in Pakistan. The Coalition members expressed full support to the Muslim community on the outrage caused by the Blasphemous cartoons depicting Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). They expressed the hope that such incidents would not lead to creation of differences between Muslims and Christians in Pakistan. Ambassador Karamat praised the role played by the Christian community in promoting religious harmony and in social and educational development of Pakistan. He assured the delegation of the full support of the Government of Pakistan to the Christian community and reiterated the Government`s commitment to protection of Christian religious sites and educational facilities. Ambassador Karamat also praised the respect earned by Pakistani-American Christians, living in the United States in a peaceful and a law-abiding manner.
