Sialkot, Pakistan; March 21, 2014. (Joseph Patres) Last night I received a call from Pasrur, District Sialkot; a city of my ancestors that our Christian community has been facing constant threat as an influential Muslim community land mafia group trying to take possession of our community graveyard forcefully to build a roadway to connect their housing project over the graves of our ancestors, resting in peace.
The British rule allotted this graveyard to our community long time ago. The Muslims are now claiming that the land belongs to them. The greedy group has recently launched a housing project adjacent to the graveyard and over the graves of our loved ones is just to boost the market value.
The community leaders are meeting with the representative of the local government to resolve the matter amicably.
The Christian youths of the city are bravely guarding the graveyard 7/24 and are ready to sacrifice their lives if the group ever attempted to desecrate the graves of their ancestors.
It is the responsibility of all levels of Governments in Pakistan to protect and respect the rights of the minorities under the law and to take appropriate action against the violators.
Thanks to Christian human rights organizations in Europe and North America for reminding the day-to-day sufferings of our community to their respective Governments abroad.
Please keep the Christian community of Pasrur City in special prayers and may Lord give them courage to fight for their legal rights.
