Lahore: January 28, 2014. (Pervez Yousaf) 26th January 2014: Following the Octave of Ecumenical Unity 2014, a day of prayer for unity among the mainline Churches of Pakistan was observed in St. Mary’s Church Gulberg, Lahore. Parish priest Rev. Fr. William Basharat OFM Cap was the celebrant of this special Holy Mass which was attended by a good number of parishioners. In his homily Fr. William made aware all the faithful about self-proclaimed ministries, pastors and bishops who create differences among low literate, un-educated and innocent Christians of the country. They beguile them by advising different self-made rules like not to recite some specific prayers, not to make the sign of Cross etc., etc. Focusing the theme of the unity octave “Have Christ been divided” he said that Christ has not been divided but these kind of people are dividing the innocent Christians. We have to be firm in faith and discourage them in doing so. For this purpose; first of all, we have to promote unity among our families. In the end the prayer of peace printed on a pocket size card was distributed. Two newly married and some senior couples were invited to lead this prayer of peace. On this occasion Church choir sang spiritually filled hymns and Psalms and increased the warmth of faith in the hearts of the worshippers.
