Salamat Bhatti under constant life threats in Pakistan

Islamabad: December 28, 2013. (PCP) The home of Pakistan Community Peace Foundation leader Mr. Salamat Bhatti was attacked again during Christmas celebrations by some fundamental Muslims to prevent him to end his human right services for Christian community. On December 15, 2013, the attackers opened on door of home of Salamat Bhatti and severely beaten up Karamat Bhatti who is brother of community leader. One attacker named Mohammad Ehasan ul Haq was caught by gathering of neighborhood residents who came out of homes after hearing firing blasts and help shouts by Bhatti family. The emergency police help was called who arrested the attacker and registered FIR (first information Report) Number# 631/2013, against Ehasan Ul-Haq Malik and other 5 unidentified peoples in the Shahzad town, police station Islamabad, on December 16, 2013. Salamat Bhatti was also attacked on October 1, 2011, in Chashma town, New Sohan Islamabad, feels that he is being targeted by religious extremists. “I am being threatened and have gone into hiding to protect myself,” he told news reporter from an undisclosed location. “Law enforcement agencies know that I am being followed. My whole family is under threat but the government doesn’t care.” Salamat Bhatti added that not one political leader or government official had contacted him since the attempted attack on him on 15.12.2013. “Where should I hide and to whom should I complain,” he asked. “Is it crime for the minorities to raise their voice?” Salamat Bhatti used to be provided security but it was withdrawn after the government was dissolved. “It is the government’s duty to provide me security and find the people behind the incident.”
