Bhopal Gas Tragedy Victims Remembered

Bhopal, India: December 4, 2013. (PCP) On the eve of 29th Anniversary of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy Rashtriya Isai Maha Sangh remembered the innocent victims with the inter-religious prayer meeting. The prayer meeting was attended by people of different faiths. Speaking on the occasion Isai Maha Sangh Convenor, Father Anand Muttungal said that we pray for the repose of about fifteen thousand people and the survivors of the tragedy. The Buddhist religious leader Banthe Shakya tragedy has brought immeasurable suffering to people. It must become an indicator to adopt proper safety methods in all industrial units. The prayer meeting was conducted with lighting candles in their memory and offering prayers by religious heads and various religious followers according to their own faiths. Isai Maha Sangh General Secretary Jerry Paul said, “Even after many years of people are lacking drinking water and basic facilities. There have been many court battles but very unfortunately justice is not delivered to the victims. The Mayor of Bhopal Krishna Gaur has said that the Bhopal Municipal Corporation has taken very step to provide safe drinking water to gas affected areas. Victims have disapproved the claims of BMC. Isai Maha Sangh Senior Vice President Mrs. Sheela Santiago said that in 2004 and in 2012 Supreme Court issued directions to the State Government to provide piped water to the victims but still now this order has not been fulfilled in total. The inter-religious prayer meeting was attended by large number of people including Naveen Xess, Richard James, Denis Topo .
