Toronto: October 1, 2013. (PCP) Canadian Christian Association (CCA) along with, International Christian Awaz, International Christian voice, United Christian Federation and CCASA Canada, were jointly at the peaceable protest in front of the Consulate General of Pakistan at Toronto on September 26, 2013. The protest was staged to condemn, the double suicide bombing at All Saints Church, Peshawar, Pakistan. There were 600 people at the church and two suicide bombers detonated in middle of the crowds, killing over 200 people, and over a hundred were seriously injured. The heinous act has left children orphaned and families destroyed.
Aforementioned organizations raised voice for protection and security of Christian minorities from Islamic fundamentalism. They called on the Consul General to plead and lobby with the government of Pakistan to take measures which can ensure safety of Christians and their holy places of worship.
John Gill; President CCA, invoked the leaders and communities to continue to raise their voice and make known the plight of Christians in Pakistan who are among the most vulnerable population. He denounced the acts of persecution and called upon the Muslims who claim that terrorism does not represent Islam. Gill said; it was high time that they raised their voice against suicide bombing and blatant killing of innocent worshipers, or live with the guilt that they did not do their part in stopping this violation of human rights and rights of religious freedom. Leaders of other organizations namely: Shadab Khokhar (ICA), Pervaiz Masih (UCF), Peter Bhatti (ICV) also expressed their concerns regarding the attack and killing of innocent people.
The air was heavy with chanting and slogans coming from around 300 people who had gathered at the protest. The honking by the vehicles passing by was an acknowledgment of the protest. The leaders for the other four organizations also expressed their views. Finally the Consul General of Pakistan came out of his office to address the crowd. He offered condolences and also agreed to work in association with the organizations to raise the voice against persecution and Terrorism. CCA would like to especially thank Mr. Asher Habib and Mr. Waseem Iqbal for making the placards and banners.
Meanwhile, Mr. Raymond Wallace Durrani, President of Pakistan Christian Congress Canadian Chapter in a press note has strongly condemned killing of Christian worshipers in Peshawar Church by twin suicide bombers and urged government of Pakistan to adopt adequate security measures for Christians to protect their life and property due to rising violence against religious communities.
Mr. Durrani also expressed concerns on singling him out on hoisting banner of Pakistan Christian Congress during protest in September 26, 2013, in front of Pakistan Mission by the organizers of protest and termed such action against unity of Pakistan Christian Diaspora in Canada.
Mr. Durrani said that organizations which organized protest are Non-Governmental organizations and Churches which turn to be political entities whenever they like and socio-religious groups when reach authorities while PCC is political party and voice of Pakistani Christians.
