Lahore: September 22, 2013. (PCP) Members of the Centre for Human Rights Education- Pakistan belonging to the different parts of the country and organizations strongly condemn the Peshawar attack in which reportedly several precious and innocent lives have been lost including women and children.
On 22 September, Centre for Human Rights Education-Lahore and its members in collaboration with different civil society organizations staged a peaceful protest against attack on the Church in Peshawar and held candle light vigil for those who lost their lives.
Mr. Samson Salamat (Director Centre for Human Rights Education) said that this attack is the latest manifestation of the growing intolerance and increasing violence in the country. Our society has been brutalized due to many factors; however, the weakening writ of the state is the main factor. It is the duty of the state to protect its citizens irrespective of their religious, lingual and ethnic background. However, the state has been showing the signs of weakness and is ready to negotiate with those elements who have been challenging its writ.
In a special message, Mr. Naseer Memon, Chief Executive of Strengthening Participatory Organization who was in Lahore to participate in CHRE training program as a Resource Person has also extended condolences with the aggrieved families and condemned the barbaric attack on the peaceful Christians in Peshawar.
At this occasion the Protestor demanded that the government should make every effort to arrest the culprits and give them exemplary punishments. Furthermore the government should make serious efforts to promote ethnic and religious tolerance in the country.
