Pakistan: September 22, 2013. (PCP) Centre for Human Rights Education and its member organizations, working against religious intolerance and extremism in the country has strongly condemned the suicide attack on a Church in Peshawar- KPK Province of Pakistan. 25 people have been killed and more than 30 were injured in a suicide attack near Kohati Gate, Peshawar on Sunday (September 22, 2013) according to local media reports. The incident occurred outside St John’s church when the Sunday service came to an end. In a joint statement issued by CHRE’s Director Samson Salamat and representatives of 30 member organizations gathered in Lahore from different parts of the country expressed deep sorrow over the barbaric incidents and demanded the safety and security of the worship places of the religious minorities. Mr. Samson Salamat said that “the worship places and other properties of the religious minorities have been under sever attacks for the last many decades, however it is very sad that nothing concrete has been done to safeguard the religious minorities. The latest attack in Peshawar has once again raised the sense of insecurity”. Mr. Samson Salamat further added that it is very unfortunate that the successive governments and the security apparatus has never been able to address the issue of religious and sectarian violence and make any concrete policy and strategy”.
