LARKANA: September 17, 2013. (Nazir Siyal) What once was among the highly esteemed educational institution is now is turning into a minting mine- Cadet College Larkana, Where parents are forced to pay the fees for the months of summer vacation but strangely for the laundry that cadets never used since they were on summer holidays. Number of parents phoned to several media-persons including this scribe telling their miseries. This correspondent also learnt that for the very first time CCL magnanimously conferred three months of summer vacation instead of two as per Sindh Summer Holidays Notification 2013, but self-interestedly charged for the same period of vacation including fees for laundry, transport and other charges. While parents were not given any convincing reason for this swaying neither were they even notified through any letter to collect their kids from the college at start of holidays, which also twirled parents into terrible misery until their kids showed up at their homes travelling on their own. It was later regretted by college administration to have swapped letters to higher class students instead of the ones supposed. On the occasion, Parents also expressed serious disapproval over increased tariffs being charged by newly contracted canteen that after gaining contract perhaps after sizeable kickback started minting the same from little cadets. Innocent cadets are now charged double than market prize over edibles like chips, cold drinks, pastries, pencil, sharpeners, and books. Parents grudged over pointless changes in the uniforms only to bequeath the vendor in Larkana city limiting cadets’ parents to buy uniform only from the designated store. Parents when tried to contact college administration for redressal of their grievances, were silently cornered admonishing them to keep quiet or their kids may be visage for jeopardy. Parents demanded college administration to call an immediate halt to pocketing fortune out of poor parents and let this prestigious institution serve the nation as it is meant to. They appealed Sindh Government and Prime Minister to take notice of the business entity that now Cadet College Larkana is turning into. The cold story doesn't end here, reliable inside sources confided to this scribe about the atrocities brought over the faculty staff, including janitorial and non clerical. It is learnt that almost all the approved government contractors who had been associated with the college since years were sacked soon after new management took over and few chosen ones are conferred upon the juicy contracts. Price tagging it as austerity measures move, teaching faculty are forced to dearer price, if otherwise they disobey. Teaching staff including senior professors and lecturers have now been assigned the additional task of unpaid vendors (procurement). They are pushed to carry out the purchasing of edibles and other daily material for the college mess. Some of the professor are seen disgruntles but been forced to visit markets in the city travelling 30 K.M to fetch electrical and mechanical appliances for the hostels. There are hushed reports of protests by administrative and teaching staff over unfair attitude by college administration. Meanwhile college administration refused to make any comment or even responded to several contacts by this scribe, made even to the Principal of Cadet College Larkana.
