Dr. Stephen Gill included as Special Contributor of Weekly â€œBlitzâ€ an Anti-radical publication of Bangladesh.
Celebrated writer and poet, Stephen Gill has recently been included as a Special Contributor of Weekly Blitz, "the only anti-radical tabloid weekly newspaper in Bangladesh", according to its editor Mr. Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury. Dr. Stephen Gill, a recipient of several awards for his writing to promote peace through peaceful means, and author of more than twenty books, including The Discovery of Bangladesh, has appeared as a poet and writer in more than five hundred publications. Editor of Weekly Blitz, Mr. Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury, was arrested in 2003 when he was on his way to Israel to attend a peace conference. Bangladesh Government brought sedition charge against him for criticizing the activities of radicals. The charge remains in trial despite international appeals to Bangladesh Government to withdraw and return Mr. Choudhury`s passport. New York based Committee to Protect Journalists has written to Bangladesh Government to return Mr. Choudhury`s passport immediately and drop the false charges. Mr. Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury has received the PEN's (USA) Freedom to Write Award in 2005. He has been selected by the American Jewish Committee to receive Moral Courage Award which will be presented to him on 2nd May in Washington DC. Despite the fact he is facing charges, Mr. Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury continues to publish articles and poems against radicals in his Weekly Blitz. Stephen Gill's book The Discovery of Bangladesh, published in 1973, traces the reasons that led to the formation of Bangladesh. Stephen Gill plans to add more chapters in its updated version to make this study more useful for the readers of today.
