Islamabad: September 11, 2013. (PCP) The minorities of Islamabad slums in order to commemorate the death anniversary of the Quaid staged an “Attention Inviting WALK” on Wednesday September 11, 2013 at press club Islamabad. The rally started at 4pm, hundreds of slum residents participated in this rally, holding the portraits and banners of Quaid, complaining that the minorities in the country have been deprived of even the basic rights. Former federal minister and Convenor of World Minorities Alliance, Mr JSalik addressing the rally said that when he was a federal minister got a number of slums/katchi abadis approved in Islamabad. Since then during more than twenty years although different governments Muslim league (N) Pervaiz Musharraf, Muslim League (Q) and now Muslim League (N) took over one after the other but the poor of the katchi abadis/slums despite their approved status remain deprived of even the basic amenities of life like electricity, separate electricity meters, supply of gas, allotment of separate ‘C’ numbers. Against the norms of Islam their prestigious educational institutions had been nationalized except in present Khyber Pakhtunkha where Maulana Mufti Mehmood was the Chief Minister. Their representation in National and provincial assemblies are made by selection instead of election. Last but not least awarding sanitation work on contractual basis has deprived the poor labour of the numerous financial and other benefits. Not only this but also causes millions of rupees financial loss to CDA through corruption. He added that during the last bye-elections 2013 the Islamabad Christian voters cast 95% votes for NA-48 Muslim League (N) candidate on the assumption that the present federal government (Muslim League (N) would solve the problems of the Christians of the slums. he categorically made a reference of the first speech of Mian Nawaz Sharif committing for restoration of minorities rights. He added that even Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah - the founder of Islamic republic of Pakistan during his address in 1940 at Muslim University Ali Garh categorically said that “No government succeeds without taking the minorities into confidence”. NA-48 Muslim League (N) candidate Ashraf Gujjar addressed to participants and congratulated them that they have with them a leader like JSalik who always stands by the community in time of need. He added that the minorities in Pakistan are not less patriotic than anyone else in the country. He appreciated remembering of the Quaid by the forum and wished that the Quaid on 11th September should have been remembered in other forums in Islamabad and even in each and every corner of all over Pakistan. Social activist Farzana Bari fully supported the demands of JSalik and stressed upon the need to solve the problems being faced by the residents of slums. Chaudhry Yaseen, (Secretary General CDA Labour Union) also warmly supported the cause of JSalik to further expressed hope that Prime minister of Pakistan like other problems would address the hardships Christian community in slums are facing. He assured to participants that he would discuss all these problems with the Chairman CDA and convince him that proper amenities of health, electricity, and gas would be provided. Further emphasized that ‘C’ numbers should be re-allotted in accordance with the actual numbers of residence living there.
