LARKANA: August 23, 2013. (Nazir Siyal) Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority Sindh Retired Commander Salman Shahid has said that 125000 people have effected during the flood in Sindh, over 7000 flood victims are living in relief camps, PDM had made the contingency plane about the downpour and expected flood three month back he said this while talking to media men during his visit at Akil Aghani Loop Bund here on Friday.
He told that he has arrived at Larkana on directives of Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah to monitor the situation and reviewing the arrangements for flood affected people added that under the contingency plane all required goods have been provided to divisional and district administrations of Sindh.
DG said that 7000 IDPs out of 125000 have arrived at camps to seek relief who are being provided the free food and medical facilities in camps.
He informed that live stock department has vaccinated to 35000 cattle in Sindh for preventing the diseases, adding that Sindh government will compensate the loss of crops and others to flood effected people.
Syed Salman Shah replying the question about the expected rain he said that by the grace of almighty Allah that chance of downpours in September month is no more it is good news hoping that flood water will recede by tomorrow 12 PM.
He directed to concerned officials of Irrigation department to ensure the availability of required flood fighting materials at vulnerable embankments of River Indus.
Commissioner Larkana Ghulam Mustafa Phull told journalists that flood effected people of Kashmore and Kandh kot have been provided the 1000 bags of rations, snake bites are available at Larkana, stranded people are being rescued to safer places by boats, all the possible steps have been taken to facilitate the flood victims.
He said that 144 village of katcha areas are effected in flood, 12 relief camps have been set up.
On occasion SE irrigation Amjad Pervaiz Dawach briefed to DG Provincial Disaster Management about the current flood situation and informed that flood water has affected the T Head Spur and mole Spur 0/4 at Akil Aghani and all embankments are intact enough to sustain the pressure of water there is no any danger position he said.
He said that 1.1 million reserve cubic foot stones are available along with side of sensitive dykes besides 4 excavators; dozers, dumpers and other latest machinery are available at bunds to face the challenge.
He informed that at present 454995 cusec water is passing from downstream Sukkur to Akil Aghani it will reduce from Saturday.
Later DG PDMA Syed Salman Shah along with Deputy Commissioner Larkana and concerned officials of Irrigation department visited the Nusrat Loop Bund and Abad Mungli Bund.qWS
