Jersey City, NJ: July 16, 2013. (PCP) In a stunning decisive victory of President-Elect’s election of Pakistani American Congress (PAC), Manawar Manny Alam of Philadelphia has secured more than twice the votes over his opponent Aqil Khan of Voorhees, NJ. Manawar Manny Alam is President of Pakistani-American Christian Association PACA, a component of Pakistani American Congress from years which represents 79 organizations of Pakistani American Muslims and Christians. The services of Manny Alam for Pakistan and United States of America are part of history which were recognized by an official letter by Pakistani Mission in Washington DC to him when he worked tirelessly to convince US Congressmen to lift economic and military sanctions on Pakistan in 1995 which were imposed under Pressler Amendment of 1985. If such services for Pakistan by any Muslim, he might be honored with any ministry portfolio in government of Pakistan but as he was a Pakistani American Christian he was pushed in back scenes. People immediately started texting each other like “fantastic,” “congrats,” “great,” “zindabad.” “I knew it in five minutes after the vote counts were done,” says Dr. Hafeez Malik of Villanova University who co-founded PAC in 1990 along with Dr. Sakhawat Hussain of Chicago. PAC has played a vital role in its annual summits at Washington’s Capitol Hill by holding open forums on US-Pakistan’s roller-coaster relationships. Back in 1997, as many as 38 congressional leaders have showed up in a single session during presidency of Dr. Zaheer Chaudhry of Pennsylvania. In year 2000, President Dr. Riaz Ahmed of Michigan expanded PAC’s umbrella from 16 to 44 organizations. Showing up of hands as a mode of election was replaced by secret ballots. Three votes were assigned to each organization’s 3 directors who in turn would elect PAC’s president every two years. Today, PAC’s website lists 79 organizations of Pakistani expatriates as members. “I’m only here to strengthen PAC’s democracy,” says Manny Alam who hails from a minority organization called Pakistani-American Christian Association. “I did the same thing for PAC, what President Obama did for America.” Alam secured 68% of votes against his opponent’s 32% who was heavily favorite of several past presidents.
