Pakistani Christian leaders condemn arson attack on Joseph Colony in Lahore

ISLAMABAD: March 17, 2013. (Shamim Masih) The police and administration were mainly responsible as they allowed the situation to develop for 24 hours into a tragedy in the heart of provincial capital, said Rev. Bishop Paulus Masih Jr. International Director, Voice of Voiceless International – VOVl has expressed his deep concern about the loss of the Christians of Badami Bagh, he was talking to Shamim from OHIO, United States of America on Saturday evening. He felt sorry for the suppressed Christians who are persecuted in their own houses. The incident took place on Saturday, March 9, 2013, when mob attacked on poor Christians of Joseph Colony, Lahore. http://dawn.com/2013/03/09/alleged-blasphemy-in-lahore-turns-ugly/ Paulus Jr. appealed the Punjab Government to provide protection to religious minorities of Pakistan and requested to take strict action against the perpetrators. The chief of VOVI appreciated the action taken by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary on this incident. http://dawn.com/2013/03/10/protests-held-against-badami-bagh-incident/ Paulus Jr. lamented that the political leadership in the country did not find courage to address the sufferings of religious minorities especially those related to abuse of blasphemy laws. “Since the Christians had fled fearing attack, no one was injured,” said Paulus Jr. who has announced to start an organization of extending free legal aid to the minorities especially accused of blasphemy. Earlier Mr. Albert David, chairman Pakistan United Christian Movement – PUCM has cherished the quick action taken by the Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif. He said that with the pressed efforts of CM, Christians of Joseph Colony will be able to celebrate Easter in their own homes. He thanked the CM Punjab to provide the quick compensations of 0.5 million to each family of the colony. Talking to the Christians of Mazharabad colony in Rawalpindi on Saturday evening, Chairman PUCM said that its time to unit Pakistani Christians in the election 2013. PUCM always stressed and eager to bring all Pakistani Christians at one platform and wanted to take some solid steps against the discriminatory laws. He urged all main stream Christians political leadership to walk in unity for the national interest leaving individual priorities. He said once we are united in for the sake of Christianity, we can defeat antagonist if divided into smaller groups we will always remain depressed and suffer as long as we do.
