LAHORE: The Committee Mission Training Seminar (CMTS), a Christian institute, held a press conference at the Lahore Press Conference on Wednesday to record their protest against alleged derogatory and blasphemous remarks about Jesus Christ's mother Mary found in a book by a Muslim author, after 13 years of its publication from Lahore. Pastor Siddique Paul and others of the CMTS travelled from Karachi to Lahore for the press conference. They have demanded an immediate ban on, and confiscation of, the book and legal action against the author and publisher by the state, to set an example of minority's equal rights in Pakistan. Paul said the CMTS saw and examined the book recently, which forced them to come to the press to mobilise a public opinion on the issue before they take any legal action. They have appealed to federal and provincial authorities to take action on the issue. The organisation also demanded confiscation and abolition of all discriminatory laws and literature and treat all religions equally. They also protested about some Islamic programmes on TV and radio which openly called for protecting people converting to Islam from other religions, saying that there was no protection for people converting to other religions from Islam. They also protested desecration of churches and non-Muslims' places of worship. According to the details provided to reporters, Maulana Alhaj Qari Muhammad Tayyab authored a book titled 'Taleemat-e-Islam aur Masihi Aqwam' (Teachings of Islam and Christian Nations) and was published by Nigarishat from Mian Chambers, 3-Temple Road, Lahore, in 1992. According to some Muslim scholars the author allegedly tried to make Islam out to be a religion superior to Christianity, with his derogatory remarks, which were also against the Holy Quran's verses quoted in Surah Al Imran. Experts said that the virginity and piety of Mary was proven in Islam and Christianity. CMTS has been arranging a number of peaceful protests in various parts of country for the last several days
