Measles kill 120 Children in Sindh province

LARKANA: December 31, 2012. (Nazir Siyal) Three more children died in Larkana due to Measles outbreak among 12 more infants are admitted in CMC Children Hospital death toll reached above 120 in province, fatal disease has spread havoc in different districts in flood affected areas here on Monday. According to reports, 10 month old Ameer S/o Taj Muhammad Abro resident of Village Arija died in CMC Children Hospital due to measles, one year old Momal Jeho and Ali Raza Narejo resident of Village Jeho near Naudero Town were also died of measles disease, among 12 more children surrounding district in towns have been admitted in CMC Children Hospital Larkana in a serious condition. The admitted child patients identified as Masooma D/o Sajid Samo, Taufeeq Ahmed Mirani, and Shumaila Abro, Zuhra Magsi (1) Saba (3), Sonra D/o Nisar Ahmed Sangi, Arslan Soomro and others. The parents of deceased children told that several other children suffering from measles, even vaccines are not available at EPI Centers of different locations sources told. The Taulka Health Officer Dr Khalilullah Shaikh told media men that 92 teams have been formed in 42 EPI Centers to Vaccinate 397622 Children aged between 9 month to 10 years in 46 Union Councils of Larkana district from 30 December to 8 January 2013, further added that so far 38951 children have been vaccinated to prevent from measles disease. He said 42 EPI Centers are providing the Health services in four Tehsils of Larkana district, he informed that in last year 2012 total 681 measles cases were reported and this disease mostly outbreaks in between two seasons.
