Rawalpindi: November 22, 2012. (PCP) Mr. Shamoon Gill, a former councilor of Rawalpindi Cantonment Board and the President Human Rights Group for Justice and Peace, in a press release issued Thursday, said that it is the mission of the Punjab CM that each and every child of the province get education. He said in view of the high admission and monthly fees in the missionary schools many children are deprived from the fundamental rights of getting education. He said that the missionary schools besides charging exorbitant admission and tuition fee do not pay tax to the federal and the provincial governments. Similarly, no audit is conducted in these educational institutions. “Rs15, 000 to 20,000 is charged from each student at the time of admission, while Rs3000 to Rs5000 monthly fees charged from students as tuition fees.” He said the monthly fee in the public schools is only Rs100 to Rs200 per month, while the admission fee in the government schools is also manageable. If a student fails to deposit fees in time, then he or she is expelled from the school, or huge fine ranging from Rs50 to Rs100 per day is imposed, he further said. Shamoon said that besides huge admission and monthly fee Rs5, 000 is taken from the students as funds when they are promoted to next classes. He said the missionary schools have made education a money-making business. Member Punjab Baitul Maal Rawalpindi, Minorities called upon the Punjab Chief Minister to take immediate notices of the matter and issue directives to the concerned authorities to conduct audit of the missionary schools. He said if the provincial government would not take action against the missionary schools then they would launch protest against them. He said they would also approach the courts against the management of the missionary schools for charging huge admission and monthly fees.
