Udit Narayan, Kumar Sanu, Kavita Krishnamurthy,Sunidhi Chauhan, Babul Supriyo, Shanker Mahadevan, Harry Anand, Amir Jamal, Anuradha Sriram to rock the stage on Bollywood Awards “ United Nations of Entertainment”

The hosting of the Eighth Annual Bollywood Music Awards 2005 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Trinidad on Saturday December 3rd culminates a lifetime of involvement in the Indian cinema and music industry here in Trinidad and Tobago. Mr. Kamal Dandona, Chairman of the Bollywood Group of Companies, and Mr. Anthony Maharaj, Film Producer/Director and CEO of CL Communications who have long shared common views and goals, have joined forces to bring you the first colossal Indo-Caribbean event outside of India. Through this event, they envision building a bridge for cultural exchange to eliminate the geographical barriers and boundaries via media, events, and entertainment. In the past and even now, Indo-Trinidadians have held on to their Indian heritage through movies and more so, the songs that "make" the movies. For years Indian movies have been the most significant cultural link for Trinidadians of East Indian origin and their descendants. The dances, moral themes and of course, the songs, of family ties, religion and friendship have brought cinema-going fans a sense of where they came from and belonging to a tried and tested tradition. In the early years, there were few Indian radio programs, as compared to now, where 25% of overall radio listenership is East-Indian based and there are four "all-Indian" radio stations (including The People's Station – Radio 90.5). But the credit goes to Mr. Kamalludin Mohammed who started the first Indian radio program back in 1947 and paved the way for others to follow. Further to this, successful endeavours were undertaken in the entertainment arena and many of the Indian playback singers were brought to Trinidad to perform in concerts – big names like Mohammed Rafi, Talat Mahamud, Kishore Kumar, Mahendra Kapoor and the legendary Lata Ji. CL Financial (parent company of Radio 90.5) has always believed in being globally competitive and in being involved in several industries and so in 1997, they decided to open an "all-Indian" radio station – Radio 90.5 FM - adding to their communications network. The popularity of the station quickly grew – not just because of the selection of songs that can be heard (including old and new hits alike), but also because of their programming which serves to educate and enhance the lives of their audience as they have chosen to be more community and family oriented, and have even taken it a step further to bring a piece of home to listeners abroad as 90.5FM can be heard live on the net 24 hours a day at www.radio90fm.com. All of these elements are embraced in their title "the people's station". Forever innovative, CL Financial and Radio 90.5 FM believed that the hosting of one of the most prestigious events out of India – The Bollywood Music Awards 2005 – was the best way to build a cultural bridge to India and the rest of the world. This esteemed event which has been hosted in the U.S.(New York and New Jersey)and Dubai, as a way of reaching out to the Indian Diaspora will finally reach our Indian community here at home and Radio 90.5 FM couldn't be more honoured than to bring it to our Indo-Trinidadians. The Bollywood Music Awards 2005 will take place on Saturday December 3rd at the Hasley Crawford Stadium, Port of Spain from 8pm and will feature performances by not just one or two singers (as the people here are used to seeing in shows), but ten of India's top playback singers such as Udit Narayan, Kumar Sanu, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Babul Supriyo, Shankar Mahadevan, Jaspinder Narula, Sunidhi Chauhan, Anuradha Sriram and Amir Jamal. In addition to this of course, is the presentation of the awards itself, which will be in two categories – film and pop. In the film category, awards will be given for the Best Music Director - Film, Best Song of the Year, Best Singer – Male, Best Singer – Female, Best New Musical Talent and a Lifetime Achievement Award. The Pop category includes awards for Best Album, Best Artist Male, Best Artist Female, Best Bhangra Group, Best Remixed Album and Best Dance Video. No show held in Trinidad would be complete without displaying some of our local talent and we've got the best in store - The Clico Shiv Shakti Dancers will perform, as well as Indar Kanhai and one of our brightest upcoming stars – Ravi Bissembhar will also render selections on the big night. Stage direction and management will be done by Mr. Tarun Chopra and his crew who have been responsible for this production for the past seven years and the stage will be like nothing we've ever seen here in Trinidad for a concert – it is expected to be approximately 120 feet wide and 80 feet in depth and is being designed by a team in India and will be constructed just for this event, also four (4) 30 feet screens will be erected. There will be lots of security and heavy police presence, parking facilities have been allocated, ushers will be on site to direct patrons to their seats which will be in one of five areas (V-VIP, VIP, Special Reserve, Reserve and General Admission) and there will be refreshments on sale. The event, to be recorded by an 8 camera shoot, will also be broadcasted to over 270 million people in more than 90 countries across the globe and sponsors include: TSTT, National Lotteries Control Board, CMMB, Angostura, Clico Investment Bank,Travelspan, Perfit, Chatak Foods, Chief Brand Products, Newsday, Blue Mountain Waters and Prudential Printers.
