WASHINGTON DC: October 20, 2012. (PCP) The founder of American Friends of Balochistan who helped organize a panel discussion at the George Mason Univeristy School of Public Policy has appealed to all the parties and stakeholders in the Balochistan conflict to exercise maximum restraint and show utmost respect to each other’s human rights.
The panel discussion Human Rights in Balochistan: Some International Perspectives was addressed by Amnesty International director International Otreach Director T. Kumar, former speaker of Balochistan assembly Waheed Baloch, and Baloch Hal edtior Malik Siraj Akbar.
Ahmar Mustikhan, who is also a senior journalist, said the main responsibility for peace in Balochistan lies on the shoulders of the Pakistani security and defense establishment.
"What they are doing in Balochistan, the enforced disappearances and the kill-and-dump policy violates the Pakistani constitution and international law," said Mustikhan.
He said former chief minister Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal has held out the olive branch by his six-points for respecting human rights and this should serve as the blue print for peace and democracy in Balochistan.
"If Pakistan could send a C-130 plane to bring back veteran leader Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri from Aghanistan, it can do the same for the other leaders now in Europe," he said.
Mustikhan said his head bows down in shame when the Baloch militants target innocent civilians and once again warned the militant outfits that they would lose all international sympathy by such terrorist actions.
He urged the Baloch to weigh their options realistically.
"The Baloch must unitedly decide which party or leader, Mian Nawaz Sharif or Imran Khan can best serve to protect their rights and work with the one they chose," he said, adding, "This happened in the case of Eritrea when they helped an Ethiopian leader win power."
Mustikhan also requested India to play its role more sensibly and support the democratic forces.
