Right To Play and Global Hand Washing Day for Children observed

LARKANA: October 16, 2012. (Nazir Siyal) As many as 1000 new building structures of schools were constructed in the different projects funded by Asian Development Bank and other funds are still in doldrums or found abandoned in various parts of Kamber-Shahdakot and Larkana district sources confirmed. According to a survey, the numbers of school have been converted into non-functional schools, due to absence of teachers or lack of supervision and inability of higher authorities’ concerned. There is several complaints about the number of schools in respective areas are without the proper furniture and basic rights, among no washrooms and hand pumps even in urban schools. According to the data, those schools were constructed in the different periods were still nonfunctional and the number of closed schools increasing rapidly due to incompletion or corruption of contractors with Education works department. There is no real efforts of governments taken to reopen, but the posting and transfers of the staff have damaged the reputation of proper school functioning and resulted number of ghost schools and ghost teachers in the lower parts of district now increased about 3000 sources said. It is pertinent to be mentioned there that the ghost schools and ghost teachers are now increased more than 4,000 in lower parts of Sindh Meanwhile, in order to protect the community and awareness among the children a “Global Hands Washing Day” was celebrated here in the remote village of Mena at Government Girls Primary School Kamber tehsil. The event organized by the Right To Play (RTP) an NGO working in the flood affected areas of Kamber-Shahdadkot district. The organization arranged health demonstrations before the school children and health lectures on the occasion. District Coordinator RTP told that the purpose was to spread awareness among the masses, regarding hygiene and its importance through hand wash he said. He told 15th October is the worldwide activity, so that Right to Play is being celebrating this day at different schools of flood affected areas in the Kamber-Shahdadkot district. On the occasion, SDEO Mrs. Qureshan and other government officials participated in the event and expressed joy over the activities with school children and asked the other Taluka Kamber officials to participate in thesea kinds of activities for the development of educational activities.
