Syria needs support against international terrorism and the policies of Turkey. By Murad Makhmudov and Lee Jay Walker

The government of Syria is fighting for its very survival against a host of foreign backed initiatives which desire to destroy the independence of this nation. It is also clear to fair minded people that interventionist policies by the United States, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Kingdom, France and Turkey, have just brought about more bloodshed and chaos in many nations. Therefore, the track record is the weakening of nation states, persecution of minorities and a huge backward step for women often follows just like what happened in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo and Libya (various negative forces continue to blight all these places). Sadly, it now appears that because political elites have failed to dislodge the government of Bashar al-Assad; that now everything is permissible including opening networks for international terrorists, having a NATO power bomb Syria under “a false pretext” and so much more. Indeed, it is ironic that Syria is now in the vanguard in the fight against international terrorism and preserving secularism. After all, political elites in Washington, London and Paris fully understand that Riyadh and Doha desire a Sharia Sunni Islamic state and this reality will also please the current leader of Turkey. It is abundantly clear, apart from to hostile nations and the mass media in the West and Sunni Islamic world in the Middle East, that the Free Syrian Army (FSA) is not wanted by the overwhelming majority of Syrian people. Of course, specialists keep on telling us about the sectarian nature of the government of Bashar al-Assad. However, internally this does not wash because the Sunni Muslim dominated city of Aleppo is overwhelmingly behind the government of Syria. This fact is obvious because where are the mass demonstrations in support of the FSA which infiltrated this city on the orders of Ankara, Riyadh and Doha? Of course, the elites in Ankara, Riyadh and Doha fully know that their “big brothers” in Washington, London, Paris and NATO are on their side. Also, this “collective axis of evil” knows full well that the majority of Syrians are against the FSA but this reality means little to these nations which desire to dictate. Since the FSA, various Islamist organizations and covert operatives from several nations have failed to hold any major city in Syria, it is now time for the “Turkey option” to come into play. Therefore, even before investigating why the Syrian army may have bombed Turkey unintentionally – or if the bombing was done by the FSA allies of Turkey – the government of Turkey under Prime Minister Erdogan decided on the usual expansionist policies of this nation. It is clear that the Syrian armed forces need to control important border areas in order to prevent the FSA and various terrorist factions from obtaining an open bridge, whereby they can re-arm and so forth. Also, the Erdogan government is allowing various terrorist organizations and the FSA to obtain military arms, training and to plan the destabilization of Syria within the borders of Turkey. This reality means that Turkey is a conduit for international terrorism, supporting the proxy FSA against the government of Syria and is helping with the flow of military arms. Therefore, it is abundantly obvious that Turkey is in the vanguard in the destabilization of Syria whereby terrorism and sectarianism are being supported openly by Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar. These three nations have the blessings of political elites in Washington, Paris and London. Given this reality, thousands of Syrian soldiers and civilians have been killed by these outside forces which are in alliance with various Islamist factions and the FSA killing machine. The consequences of this brutal reality is that car bombings, killing journalists, attacking religious minorities, suicide attacks, beheading anyone deemed to be a loyalist to Bashar al-Assad, torture, and other cruel realities are now the modus operandi of Washington, London, Paris, Doha, Ankara and Riyadh. If this was not the case, then Western powers would have condemned these international terrorist ratlines when they began to emerge. However, when the same Western powers are involved in the same ratlines then obviously a compliant and unimaginative mass media works wonders in order to distort reality. The vice-president of the European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee, Will Meyer, comments that “On October 4, the Turkish parliament approved a law authorizing the army to carry out operations in Syria. Since then, Turkey has been attacking targets in Syria using reprisal for the bombing of Free Syrian Army bases on the border of the country as an excuse. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has already announced that Syrian soldiers moving closer to the border with Turkey will be treated as military targets, raising the appalling specter of an all-out invasion of Syria.” Will Meyer continues by stating that “Turkey’s unsavory track record of invasion and occupation, not to mention the violation of the principles of international and European law, must also be kept in mind. The most notorious example of this is its ongoing occupation of the northern part of the island of Cyprus in violation of the UN charter and the human rights and civil liberties of the Cypriot people. Its prevention of a bi-communal, bi-zonal federation solution for Cyprus in line with UN resolutions is threatening the peace process and endangering stability in a volatile region.” In an article by Russia Today (RT) it is stated that “The mortar used to attack the Turkish town of Akcakale is a design specific to NATO and was given to Syrian rebels by Ankara, according to Turkey’s Yurt newspaper. The mortar killed one adult and four children from the same family on Wednesday.” “An article by the paper’s Editor-in-Chief, Merdan Yanardag, states that the newspaper received information from a reliable source, which claimed that Turkey itself sent the mortars to rebels in the so-called “free army” (FSA)” If the United Nations and political elites in Washington, Paris and London are concerned about outside nations intruding on the sovereignty of others, then firstly they should force Turkey to get out of northern Cyprus. Following on from this, they should look in the mirror and note that the above three Western powers have involved themselves in countless conflicts over the last 50 years. Also, many civilians are killed by drone attacks in Pakistan by America but somehow these deaths are not being condemned openly by the same powers. Therefore, Syria needs support in its fight against international terrorism and the absurd policies of Turkey which is aiding, training and providing bases for the FSA within the borders of Turkey. The track record of political elites in Ankara is abundantly clear and this applies to the Kurdish issue, the persecution of the Alevi, northern Cyprus, violating the sovereignty of Iraq, the blockade of Armenia and other policies. Likewise, the role of Saudi Arabia and Qatar in funding radical Salafists is also common knowledge and 15 out of 19 people who did September 11 came from Saudi Arabia. It is therefore essential that the policies of outside nations which are supporting terrorism, sectarianism, sedition, the destruction of cities and other barbaric realities against Syria, is condemned by the international community. If not, then the failed policies which have created havoc in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo, Libya, Syria, and other parts of the world, will move on to another nation because currently the same players destabilize at random. http://www.publicserviceeurope.com/article/2563/turkey-wrong-to-attack-syria-further-bloodshed-is-no-solution http://rt.com/news/nato-mortar-syria-turkey-954/ leejay@moderntokyotimes.com http://moderntokyotimes.com
