Canadian organizations of Christian of Pakistani origin write an open letter to Allama Tahir Ashrafi
We the Pakistan Christians are thankful to all of you for sending us very encouraging emails and telephone calls in our efforts to highlight the blasphemy case of Rimsha and the safety of her family.
We are especially grateful to Hafiz Tahir Muhammad Ashrafi, Chairman, Pakistan Ulema Council along with other like-minded scholars who not only took bold steps to expose the misuse of blasphemy law, but also promised to provide Rimsah all kinds of protection. In his press conference on Monday, September 03, 2012 in Islamabad, he said: "Rimsha is Pakistan's daughter and if the government cannot provide protection to her, the Pakistan Ulema Council is ready to do so". We are also appreciative that in his press conference he demanded government of Pakistan to re-examine the standard of investigation before charging anybody under the blasphemy law. He further demanded the Government of Pakistan for an impartial judicial investigation in this case so as to bring the real facts before the courts and the public.
Hafiz Tahir Muhammad Ashrafi while risking his position and his life has taken a highly commendable initiative to support the cause of persecuted Christians in Pakistan. His blunt statements, interviews to the media and discussion on TV will definitely bring positive future impacts in the cases of Christians being falsely implicated under the blasphemy laws and undergoing difficult times in jails. Whatever he has done will not only turn the pages of history of Pakistan in favour of our brothers and sisters suffering due to their faith but has also expose clandestine faces of our self-imposed and self-made Christian leaders, lacking political acumen and damaging the cause of our persecuted Christians.
We are taking up with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to take sue motto action to repeal the blasphemy law and release of Rimsha . We would also demand that Imam Khalid Chisti, presently under arrest, who conspired against the disabled Christian girl and burnt Quranic verses to supplement false evidence against her, must be charged under the blasphemy law.
We would further demand the Pakistani Courts, Police, District Administration and government officials to be fair in the administration of justice in the case of Rimsha and also reopen and reinvestigate cases of those Christians in jails under the blasphemy laws.
All along, we are highly appreciative of the Pakistani Media people particularly Hamid Mir, Sana Bucha, another Muslim activist woman including those who played a pivotal role to bring the facts of the matter before the public and concerned officials.
At the same time, we request the community members/leaders to continue keeping in their prayers to those who at this critical moment are making positive and tangible contribution to stop misuse of blasphemy laws against Christians in Pakistan.
However, we will keep you posted with the latest situation of Rimsha and her family.
