Islamabad: September 13, 2012. (PCP) Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) welcomes the release of Rimsha Masih charged under 295B of controversial blasphemy law. The release of Rimsha Masih is a success of religious minorities and all human rights organizations working to restore their rights, said by the President HRFP Mr. Naveed Walter. He pays tribute to the court of law for upholding norms of Justice and also appreciates the stand taken by Additional Session Judge, Mohammad Azam Khan while taking the decision to grant bail of Rimsha. Naveed Walter congratulate also to all supporters of Rimsha Masih who assist to her in different ways till her bail and settlement. HRFP has applauded the role of Civil Society, Islamic Scholars and Religious Leaders in highlighting the issue and speaking in the favor of Rimsha Masih. Along with this, HRFP also acknowledges unprecedented and courageous role of Sub-Inspector Mr. Munir Jaffri (Investigation Police Officer) in conducting fair investigation of this high profile case and exposing the denouncing role of Imam Khalid Jadoon Chishti for altering the evidence against Rimsha. During the case proceedings of Rimsha Masih, HRFP remain active and very close through monitoring and following up all updates right from the 1st day of her arrest on 16th August, 2012 till the day of her release on 8th September, 2012 from Adiala Jail Rawalpindi. On 16th August, 2012 when HRFP came to know about the registration of Blasphemy case under section 295B against 14 years old Rimsha resident of suburb Meran Jafar in G-11 sector of Islamabad. HRFP started investigation of the case to accumulate actual facts regarding the allegation of blasphemy. HRFP team (Naveed Walter President, Zohaib Newton Program Coordinator, Younis Sardar Regional Coordinator for Islamabad/Rawalpindi/Texila) visited the Meran Jaffar Colony and went to the house of Rimsha Masih which was locked up at that time. 50-60 Christian families were residing in this area out of which only 2 Christian families were still present in Meran Jafar while others were shifted to other areas due to the fear of threat and insecurity of their lives. The two families whom HRFP met were mystified and hassled due to the domination of Muslim community. HRFP observed that they were pressurized to remain silent in this particular case. The Core hearing held at District & Session Court Islamabad on 7TH September 2012 was also listened by the fact finding team of HRFP. HRFP also met and provided moral support to Rimsha’s family and to the Panel of Lawyers assisting Rimsha’s case. The hearing of 7th September 2012 was ended by the decision of District Session Judge Mohammad Azam Khan in which he granted the bail to Rimsh against a surety bond of Rs 1 million on four major counts. After conducting direct proper investigation of Rimsha’s case through monitoring , fact finding , one on one meetings with Lawyers panel (Abdul Hameed Rana and others), Police Investigation Officer Munir Jaffri, Human Rights Activist Tahira Abdullah, Human Rights Activist Joseph Francis, Rimsha’s family, Rimsha’s neighbors Riaz Masih & Raqia Masih, Babu Masih & Razia Masih, Local Muslim residents Sadam Hussan, APMA’s spokesperson Naveed Amir Jeeva, National & International media’s representatives and to many other characters involved in this issue, Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) has gauged following conclusions: 1. The alleged charge of blasphemy on Rimsha Masih is forged and fictitious. 2. The complainant and local prayer leader falsely charged Rimsha for burning of 10 to 12 pages of Quranic Verses due to religious discrimination and intolerance. 3. The Complainant Malik Mohammad Ummad is not direct witness of Rimsha Masih Case. 4. Actually only one Page of Arabic Verses was found from the bag of Rimsha. 5. More than 50 Christian families fled from the area in safety of their lives. 6. The story narrated in the FIR (First Information Report) is groundless and baseless. 7. The medical report shows that Rimsha is aged 14 years and a Down Syndrome Patient. In order to enforce Justice and ensure the protection of minorities, following are the Recommendations of Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP): 1. All discriminatory practices against religious minorities should be controlled and especially the provision of 295B/C of blasphemy laws should be repealed on urgent basis. 2. All cases of blasphemy laws whose victims are in prisons should be revisited and investigated fairly and they should be released immediately. 3. The Imam Khalid Jadoon Chishti who fictitiously accused Rimsha Masih should also be dealt under the same allegation. 4. Rimsha Masih should be provided with trauma counseling under expert psychologists. 5. The Government should take initiatives to promote religious harmony between different religions and should take the practical steps to stop such victimizations against religious minorities.
