HYDERABAD, PAKISTAN: September 10, 2012. (By abbas Kassar) A group of 171 minority Hindus who migrated from Sindh, Pakistan under violence of religious extremisim have refused to go back to Pakistan adding that they were ready to die but would not return back to Pakistan, denouncing the tall claims of Pakistan government that Hindus were not migrating to India but going for Yatra. Federal Home Minister of Pakistan Rehman Malik had said few days back that migration of Hindus to India was conspiracy but he did not elaborate weather Sardars and shrine leaders (Pirs) on whose behest Hindu girls were being kidnapped and then converted to Islam were being such conspiracy or the government of India to repeat the happenings of 1971 Dhaka fall. Federal Minister Maula Bux Chandio the head of a committee formed by president Zardari to find facts in reports of mass migration of Hindus from Sindh has also termed the reports of migration as baseless and called it as propaganda against PPP government. It is astonishing that Pakistan president Zardari and Sindh chief minister Qaim Ali Shah were forming committees and commissions but were not issuing directives to police and other law enforcement agencies to protect the lives and properties of minority Hindus in Sindh. However the report of 171 Hindus who migrated from Sindh and arrived in Jodhpur and refused to go back to Pakistan was sufficient eye opener for Pakistan government who has failed to stop the religious extremism from spreading to even rural villages of Sindh. A group of 171 Hindus who reached Jodhpur through Thar express train that runs once a week between India and Pakistan through Khokhrapar-Monabao were mostly from Hyderabad and Sanghar districts. Though they had gone to India for purpose of Yatra but were adamant to return to Pakistan due to extensive fear. On the other hand an NGO in Jodhpur Lok Sangthan has made appeal to Indian government to treat these Hindus as refugees. A leader of Hindu migrants told SLS that they can’t understand their pathos. He said he was from Sanghar where in near past his father died but he was not allowed to perform his Antim Sanskar ( last rites) due to fear of Muslim religious scholars. He said they won’t return back to Pakistan and for that matter they were ready to be killed as the increase in Islamic fanaticism has made the lives of non-Muslim minorities in Pakistan too miserable. It may be noted that few days back around 300 Hindu had migrated from Pakistan to Delhi and had sought asylum as they had said that they were not safe in Pakistan.
100 FAMILIES MIGRATE FROM BALOCHISTAN: Meanwhile more than 100 Hindu families have migrated from Balochistan during the present tenure of PPP since 2008. According to Maharaj Lakshmi Chand Garji a Hindu temple leader from Kalat more than 31 Hindus including 19 children and 3 women were killed by security forces in Dera Bugti which indicates that not only kidnappers, criminals but also security forces were involved in violence against non-Muslim minorities in Balochistan. Maharaj himself was kidnapped along with 4 others in December 2010 and released after paying huge amount of ransom to kidnappers in March 2011.
The Hindus say they are left with “no option” but to flee the country once the government fails to provide them any kind of protection from the criminals. Maharaj Lakshmi says breakdown of law and order and an upsurge in cases of abduction for ransom has compelled 100 families to migrate to India while another 200 families have left various districts of Balochistan for safe places and their ultimate destination might be India as there is also same kind of breakdown of law and order and violence against Hindus in Sindh.
Mr. Shahwani, who is also a Council Member of Human Rights Commission of Pakista, says “we urge the government to make immediate efforts to protect the life and property of the Hindus. So far, the authorities have not responded positively to our calls.”
BurjLal, a notable of the community in Noshki District, said that they had lived in Balochistan for thousands of years but now his relatives had begun to leave Noshki to settle in other cities. “The Hindus do not feel safe when they go out to do a job nor are their children secure when they go out to get education.
Meanwhile a moot in Larkana city of Sindh organized under Sindhi Adabi Sangat has observed that Hindus are being made target on basis of religion and forced to migrated. Mir Alam Mari vice chairman of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz was of view that state has failed to provide protection to Hindus. He said Hindus were not minority as they were the original residents of Sindh since last 6000 years. Hindu Panchayet leader Dr. Raj Kumar said those involved in violence against Hindus were sitting in power corridors. He said since creation of Pakistan Hindus has always been seen with suspicion of being traitors instead of patriots. He said to leave one’s own motherland was very tortuous but they were forced to leave it. Noted poet Nayab Sarkash Sindhi said that Hindus girls were being kidnapped and converted to Islam that was gross violation of minority rights. She lashed out at PPP government for its lethargy to protect its own citizens.
