ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN: September 2, 2012. (Shamim Masih) Pakistan United Christian Movement (PUCM) organized a Demonstration on Sunday, September 02, 2012 from St. John’s School, Murree Road to Rawalpindi Press, Rawalpindi. The news release said Albert David (Chairman Executive Committee, PUCM) highlighted the historical role of Christians in Pakistan. He said that the ongoing situation with religious minorities is very disappointing. Albert appealed to the government to release the 14 years old Rimsha immediately, as the real culprit is being arrested yet the girl is still in jail. Failure to do so, he said, points to a bleak future for minorities. The time has come for Christian in Pakistan to be treated equally in all spheres of life, he added. The rally protestors were holding placards and banners, demanded equal citizenship for Christian and the ending of discriminatory practices. PUCM made a number of recommendations to the government. They included steps being taken to solve the problems that all minorities are facing throughout the country in accordance with the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The following are the recommendations that PUCM proposed to the Government: 1. Steps should be taken to solve all the problems that Christians are facing throughout the country and according to the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights all violations against minorities should be stopped immediately. 2. All discriminatory laws against religious minorities especially (295 A/B/C) should be revisited and also the fabricated use of (295A/B/C) should be stopped. Also the victims upon whom allegations are not yet proofed should be released. 3. In all parts of the country, Government writ and provision of justice & protection should be ensured to the minorities particularly the forcible conversions and Islamic marriage of young minorities' girls and women should be stopped. 4. To provide equal citizenship rights to minorities such practical steps and mechanism should be ensured that will provide easy access to Justice, Restoration and Protection to the minorities. 5. In the political process according to the democratic values the Government should give representation through election, not selection to minorities in provincial, national assembly and senate according to their actual population. 8. In the text books of academic syllabus all negative chapters and references against the minorities should be eliminated that are creating the negative impressions in the minds of new generation against the minorities. Few other Christian, religious and social reformers also made their speeches there.
