HYDERABAD, Pakistan: August 30, 2012. (By Abbas Kassar) Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Sindh Chapter has taken out a rally here on Thursday to mark the international day against forced disappearances. The rally was led by comrade Jam Saqi, Parveen Soomro and Professor Badar Soomro. The speakers said that the issue of forced disappearances has remained among top crisis of Pakistan since last 10 years and according to their family members the number of such persons was in thousands. The human rights bodies were finding facts about those disappeared forcibly and whose cases were pending in courts also were in hundreds. They said it has been proved beyond doubt that the issue has arisen out of arrests and keeping the people in custody without allegation and without any lawful authority and that state agencies were involved in it. They said that since 2007 the Supreme Court has been issuing orders for release and to arrange the meetings of disappeared persons with their family members but in many cases orders of court have not been implemented. They expressed concern that even today the practice of forced disappearance continues and rather the dead bodies of disappeared persons have been throwing before their homes after protest by human rights bodies and civil society. They deplored that the society in large has not given positive response to the protest held by relatives of disappeared persons that is why in Balochistan the issue has turned into grip of extremism and in Sindh the feeling of deprivation was running high. In such a situation the questions were rising on security of country. They demanded resolution of issue of forced disappearances at satisfaction of the families concerned; the convention of UNO on forced disappearances be implemented; to punish those responsible for kidnapping and then getting them disappeared and to throwing their bodies after killing; to provide justice to families concerned and to support them financially; the law enforcement agencies be made bound to refrain from the practice and if any arrest is made his family members be informed.
