Lahore, Pakistan: August 15, 2012. (PCP) The 2nd Interfaith Iftar Dinner in wake of Islamic month of Ramadan celebrations was organized by Interfaith Youth in Action IYA and World Faith Pakistan WFP, at Loyola Hall Lahore, on August 11, 2012, to promote theme “Bridge Building through Interfaith Youth Initiatives”
More than 50 diverse faith youth leaders from across Lahore and surrounding areas participated and enjoyed Iftar Dinner.
The main purpose of this Iftar was to provide platform for diverse youth members to interact, develop relationships, Understanding, Reconciliation, and Peace in the society of Pakistan.
“Fellowship around a table is very important in boosting friendships,” said Jesuit Father Imran Ghouri, who was also at the gathering. “Hospitality gives us a chance to understand each other on a human level, irrespective of religious or political affiliations.”
“This is second time I am participating in IYA/WFP activity and it gave me so inspiration, friends from other faiths and help me to remove my misunderstanding about other faiths” said Mr. Hanif Hunzie, Training Officer in PTCL
“We are living in isolation, these kinds of programs help us to develop and form inclusive society which is foundation of peace and harmony” said Ms. Anila Noor, Project Manager
The event was not without hitches. “Many Muslims declined the offer after they learned that the meal would be at a Church place,” said Shahid Ghouri, the youth group’s founding president. “There’s a perception in society against eating meals cooked and prepared in a Church.”
“By this successful event diverse youth learned about experienced each other’s unique customs and traditions, participated in an Interfaith Iftar (one of the religious observances of Ramadan where people gather to break their fast together), and explored new and innovative ways to bring a sustainable peace to the Pakistan” commented Shahid Rehmat, Director IYA
