Philadelphia: July 12, 2012. (PCP) Election on Reserved Seats must be Top Priority of Pakistan's Democracy," according to Manny Alam, President of Pakistani-American Christian Association (PACA), the oldest civic organization of Pakistani Christian expatriates in USA. "We have demonstrated and campaigned very hard in the past toward joint elections, but General Musharraf has left a wrinkle in this electorate system. Minorities only give their votes but cannot solicit votes for them. What a joke?" Last month Manny Alam was addressing to a summit in Washington DC organized by Pakistani American Congress (PAC), an umbrella of 70 Pakistani organizations in USA. In the presence of think tanks, intelligentsia, Pakistan Embassy personnel and congressional leaders, he asserted the services of Christian community in lobbying for Brown's Amendment which got Pakistan $638 millions back in 1995. "It's all documented," Mr. Alam emphasized "And what did the Christian Community get in return - NOTHING." "It's time that Pakistani government foster its minorities to mainstream politics through elections and not through proxy."
At the present time, the candidates of Pakistan's minorities are handpicked by the winning political parties and only safeguard the interests of their "masters." The scenario of such puppet minority representation, in fact, is no different than the street life of an average minority citizen which leads an unequal, unsafe, depressed and discriminated life.
