Archdiocesan vocation committee working for new vocations

Lahore, Pakistan: July 11, 2012. “Vocation is the gift and sharing the love of divinity by human beings”. These were the words of Fr. Salim David, the vocation committee member of the archdiocese of Lahore during the vocation programe held at Mary Immaculate Conception Church, Anarkali on the 9th of July 2012. He continued talking to 26 boys of the four parishes of Lahore, viz: St. Paul’s Church Shadbagh, St. Anthony’s parish Empress Road, St. Luke’s church Shahdara and Aarakali. He said it is a call from God which invites man to chooses the person and then sends them to the people as a blessing. The priesthood is the way and attitude to give life to the people. Fr. Salim David, the parish priest of St. Pauls’s parish in Lahore city said that the God has called each person and it was his time to recognize his vocation and say yes as the prophet Samuel consented to the call of God. He said that if we look at our abilities we will know that we are not so capable than the others and physically not handsome as compared to the others but God wants us to come forward and serve His people. He further said that there is lot of attraction of money, glamour and media in this age but these attractions will diminish but the biggest attraction in the world is God Himself which lives for eve. Another member of the vocation committee Fr. Emmanuel Ahmed said that from 2010 the Archdiocesan priests make it a point to increase the vocations with the blessing of Bishop Sebastian Francis Shaw OFM He thanked the parish priests of the four parishes especially Fr. Inayt Bernard to be the host. The first members of the committee were Frs. Salim David and Ashraf Gill. Then one year later Fr. Emmanuel Ahmed joined the team and is serving for promotion of the vocation for diocesan priests. Fr. Emmanuel Ahmed told that they have already had three programs this year. First was on 31st of March in Sheikhupura, on 29th of April. Was the 2nd one at St. Paul’sparish at Shadbagh and then on 26th May was at St. Francis Xavier parish Gujranwala and now was the fourth program. The fifth and the last, he ended, will be on the 27th of July at St. Joseph Church Sialkot City. Fr. George Daniel said to the students that it is an occasion to recognize our vocation and you are to take the first step and God will do the rest. He advised then to stand firm in their faith in the Lord . Fr. Benjamin Joseph said that God is talking to you through the Word of God as in the Old Testament. Fr. Inayat Bernard, the host proved lunch for the students and thanked and encouraged to go on to spread the seed in the soil and God will provide the result. Out of 26 students 6 have applied to join the minor seminary for priestly formation.
