LARKANA: June 30, 2012. (Nazir Siyal) Sindh Sahafi Sangat (SSS) widely condemned the administration and information department, continuously ignoring the working Journalists community by creating conspiracies to support other groups’ v/z media in Larkana.
The meeting condemned the officials of Larkana, they said that if they will not change their attitude against the working media personals, Journalists would launch province wide protest against them.
In a meeting, it is observed that there are four separate Press Clubs have been established in the present democratic government in Larkana, which is a biggest failure of successive government concerning press freedom, has been the inability to provide security to journalists and media institutions.
It is also worth mentioned here that there are four murders of working Journalists have been take placed only in Larkana, while around 10 Journalists have been killed in the Larkana division.
Recently, a senior Journalist Hafiz Khair Mohammed survived in a life attack by armed men, while his young married son was killed by the armed men and the police failed to take the issue or security to the Journalist and his family. In Larkana media men were manhandled brutally several times by the so called Journalists.
The killing of several media men in Larkana and injury as well arrest with fake cases against many others is proof that the present government and bureaucracy is no more interested in providing a secure environment essential for the promotion of press freedom.
Several media personals are still insecure, the media continued to be exposed to violence and pressures from the administration, political and religious groups and their influential colleagues too they are the agent and supporting bureaucracy.
On the occasion, senior Journalists condemned that the despite of various complaints reiterated to the Chief Minister Press Secretary and ruling party media coordinators and other concerned but they did not pay any heed to the media issues, which highly condemnable media said.
SSS and other liberal Journalists organizations demands for the generous policy, avoid favoritism despite of this to promote freedom of expression with autonomy and ending government monopoly control over the media.
We demand of the government to clear the vision and commitment to make institutional changes to promote press freedom and stop the administration and concerned department in the media involvement.
