Several kiln workers in the province went on strike over unsatisfactory wages, said a Bonded Labour Freedom Front Pakistan (BLFFP) statement on Thursday.
The statement said the BLFFP was told by its representatives in Narowal, Sialkot, Pasrur, and other surrounding areas that workers were not being paid properly and they were not being provided with proper medical and security facilities.
The workers went on strike on October 9, 2005 when the situation worsened and the federation demanded labourers be given their rights and proper wages. Workers should be paid at least Rs 350 per 1,000 bricks, the BLFFP said and demanded police intervene to stop the workers' exploitation by kiln owners.
