Karachi: June 17, 2012. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC have expressed grave concern on news story in section of Pakistan press and electronic media that there are Thousands of Pakistani Christian children, women and men living like slaves as bonded labor in Brick Kiln industry owned by Muslims in Punjab province of Pakistan. The Brick Kiln industry in Punjab has thousands of Christian men, women and children employees who are paid one or two thousand Pakistani Rupees in advance which mounts to hundreds of thousands of rupees with multiple interests under manipulations of Muslim “Bhatta” owners. The Christian employees on these “Bhattas” are provided one room residence which is charged rent with other utility bills continuously added to the advance payment. The Brick Kiln industry workplaces are known as “Bhattas” which are situated at distances from residential areas of villages, towns and cities of Pakistan from decades where employees dig land and take out mud which is mixed with water to make it ready to shape every evening. The employees start their work at 4; 00 AM, next morning and make more than 1000 bricks from mud. The government has fixed 500 hundred Pakistani Rupees for making of 1000 bricks but according to Pakistan Christian Post sources the employees are paid only 200 hundred rupees which is about 2 dollars and 25 cents. There are no medical facilities for employees of these “Bhatta” workers and they have to travel miles for medical assistance and Muslim Bhatta owners who pay for such treatment add more in credit of these employees which rises up to hundreds of thousands. There are Christians only who are employed on these “Bhattas” who are mostly uneducated and do not know that how much Muslim employer is adding to their credit account. When any one wants to flee from these bonded labors, the Muslim employers chase them and bring them back to “Bhattas” and add more than 50,000 thousands in their credit account in expenses to chase them. There are horrified incidents of forcing Christian employed women and men to sell their kidneys by Muslim “Bhatta” owners to pay off their debts and receive freedom but they are not freed. Hundreds of Christian men and women die every year in this Brick Kiln industry due to TB and other health issues. The Muslim owners of these “Bhattas” and their Muslim managers use young Christian girls born in these facilities as sex slaves and gang rape Christian women of their employees. The cycle of such slavery is going on from decades as debt is moved to son and daughters after death of his father on these “Bhattas” who again start digging land, taking out mud and mixing it with water to start making Brick next early morning. Dr. Nazir Bhatti said that it is slavery and crime against humanity to keep bonded labor but government of Pakistan has never paid any attention to free these thousands of Christians. Nazir Bhatti said “The Christians are slaves in Punjab while Hindus from lower casts are also slaves in Sindh province in Pakistan” There are thousands of Hindu peasants in Sindh who are chained at night and forced to work in fields of feudal lord’s farms next morning. PCC Chief condemned Christian selected parliamentarians and Paul Bhatti, advisor to PM on minorities’ affairs for not paying attention on such slavery issue of Christians and Hindus in Pakistan. Dr. Nazir Bhatti urged President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister of Pakistan Yousaf Raza Gillani and Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Choudhry to act to free thousands of Christians and Hindus from slavery in Pakistan.
