Toba Tek Singh: June 14, 2012. (PCP) Mr. Ashfaq Fateh, a Christian leader of district Toba Tek Singh was selected a member of citizen's committee to work for peoples issue in District Toba Tek Singh. This high level committee has been formed and Ashfaq Fateh has been chosen to represent Christian Community. The committee shall work to resolve the people’s issues. This is a non-political forum. (Anjuman-e-Mafad-e-Ama).
District Toba Tek Singh is remote district of Punjab province of Pakistan which is always in news items due to base of extremists Muslim organizations. The Gojra Town where seven Christian children, women and an elder man were burnt alive and more than sixty homes of Christians were destroyed by Muslim mob on accusations of blasphemy in nearby village Korian are sistuated in Toba Tek Singh.
There have been four cases of arrests of Christians on allegations of blasphemy from city of Toba Tek singh which is district headquarter of this district and hundreds of Christian peasants are waiting for due lease allotment for their agricultural land from years in this district.
These are members of Citizen Committee; Qazi Ghasu-Din Janbaz, Convener, (85 year old, Jailed for 11 years to restore democracy during Zia-ul-Haq's dictatorship), Ch. Amjid Ali Javed, District President, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) Dr. Zahid Sattar, Chief, Jamat-e-Islam, District, Toba , Dr. Waheed Akbar, District Organizer, Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf, District Press Club President, District Bar Association President, President Trader's Union, All the District Heads of Islamic groups including Sunni, Baralvis, Ahl-e-Haiet, Sheiats and others while Ashfaq Fateh, Member Christian Community
This committee represents almost ever sections of the society and has the trust of people. The committee has peacefully conducted protests against prolonged outages and succeeds to stop unscheduled power outages in the district of Toba Tek Singh.
