LARKANA: June 7, 2012. (Nazir Siyal) More fresh cases of polio have been detected different parts of Sindh during national immunization campaign, tall claims of health department and donor agencies proved false, one Polio case was detected in Larkana, while reports of two other cases is awaited.
The country continues to experience a surge of polio cases, three more children were found polio viruses among one confirmed by the Commissioner Larkana Division Dr Saeed Ahmed Magnejo along with Deputy Commissioner Larkana, representative of UNICEF, WHO and Health officials visited the house of Munir Ahmed Jagirani father of Polio affected child 18 month old Riaz Ahmed at Village Razi Pitafi of Taluka Ratodero near Naudero.
The officials confirmed and diagnosed a positive Polio virus and he was assured Polio effected child parents that Larkana administration will help and bear all the expenditures of treatment.
The officials told that patient will be shifted to Islamabad or Karachi for further treatment and announced to constitute the committee which will survey and monitor Anti Polio drive in Larkana District.
Dr Ashique Ali Jokhio representative of Anti Polio campaign in Larkana told media men that 17 AFP tests were carried out from January 2012 to June 2012 in Institute of Medical Science Islamabad only one case Riaz 18 month s/o Munir Ahmed Jagirani has been reported as positive Polio case.
He further told that two other suspected cases among Sajid Ali s/o Sobdar Chandio resident of village Muhammad Khan Chandio of Taluka Larkana and baby Seema daughter of Nishan village Masu Dero is to arrive from Islamabad.
After the super flood several areas of Larkana including forest areas were missed during the campaign as the administering Polio drops to children.
It is surprisingly the polio virus is spreading all over country due to ineffective vaccine with cold chain and a lack of vigorous campaign. About 26 polio cases were detected so far year which is a setback to the government and foreign donors’ efforts to eradicate the disease.
Few months back In Larkana Division, polio cases were reported among three-year-old Aziza, one-year-old Samia, two-year-old Yaseen and five-year-old Deedar last year.
In Kamber-Shahdadkot, three-year-old Mohammad Ali, a resident of Gareebabad Muhalla Kamber city and another five-year-old girl Kalsoom, a resident of village Katohar, were diagnosed positive for polio virus, said officials of Sindh Health Department.
People in Kashmore district have demanded of the government to probe the alleged negligence by the concerned officials for not carrying out an effective anti-polio campaign and take action against them.
They also demanded of the government to inquire the matter as to why their kids caught polio disease despite the children were administered drops carrying vaccine or other reasons behind.
