Karachi: May 25, 2012. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC said here today that Punjab government is conspiring to force Asia Bibi in Sheikhupura jail to convert to Islam for her release and to avoid death sentence on blasphemy charges.
Asia Bibi was sentenced to death on blasphemy accusation by session Court of Sheikhupura in 2010, and she is waiting for her appeal in Lahore High Court against her conviction.
Asia Bibi, mother of five was arrested under blasphemy when argues arise on her working place in berry collecting fields to touch pond from which Muslim women were also drinking in village of Ittanwali in district Farooqabad.
Asia Bibi was targeted on touching water pond from where Muslim women use to drink. In Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Christian are treated as untouchables and prohibited to drink or eat restaurants and Muslim vendors on streets.
Nazir Bhatti said “Blasphemy law is being used against Christians in Pakistan on rivalry and disputes and needs repeal to ensure equal rights of citizens of Pakistan”
