On the 8 October 2005, Saturday morning a severe earthquake hit region of Pakistan, India and Afghanistan, which measured 7.6 on the Richter scale, was some 95 kilometres north of Pakistan's capital city Islamabad. Several villages are known to have been completely destroyed, and countless others have been severely damaged. Approximate figure of deaths stands at 40,000. Up to half of those who have died are children. A whole generation had been wiped out in the most devastated areas. A huge number of children have been orphaned. Up to 4 million people have been left homeless. Survivors face dying of cold and in desperate need of shelter, food, water, essential medical services and sanitation. Malaria and other diseases are breaking out in some regions. Asian Christian Relief has launched urgent appeals for donations to help survivors of the earthquake disaster. We will be grateful for your donation and your support for coordinating a joint effort of the Asian Christian Community here in UK and donating as you see fit. We are working closely with other charities and monitoring the progress. We are hoping to organise a fund raising event. There has been some indication of sending supplies like blankets and clothing. Details will be sent out as soon as they are made available. Please make your cheques payable to the Asian Christian Relief For further details contact: Mr. Massey Phone: 07723310323, 07916120333, and 07868780679. E-mail: acf@jaag.org.uk
