(Nazir Siyal) Thousands of Sindhi Nationalists leaders, workers and supporters from different parts of Sindh districts arrived at Bypass of Ratodero-Gawadar Motorway to attend the Chehlum (40th Day) of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) Chairman late Bashir Khan Qureshi here on Sunday.
On the occasion, Ratodero and other cities were decorated with party flags, banners and the portraits of Bashir Khan Qureshi. The Sindhi Nationalists leaders and workers showered rose petals on the mazar and offered Fateha for the departed soul of late Bashir Qureshi.
On the occasion, Chehlum was observed Sunday morning by the women workers and family with Quran Khawani and distribution food on the occasion, while a big congregation arranged at the Mazar of Chairman late Bashir Khan Qureshi.
The caravans of party leaders and workers reached till Sunday eveing among the differenet party leaders and workers of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), Jeay Sindh Mutahida Mahaz (JSMM), Sindh United Party (SUP), Jeay Sindh Mahaz (JSM), Sindh National Party (SNP), Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party (JSTP), JSQM Areesar group and others reached in Ratodero Chehlum of late Qureshi.
The workers waving their colourful party flags arrived and offered Fateha at the Mazar of late Bashir Khan Qureshi and pleged to continue their efforts to achieve the objectives on the occasion.
JSQM took out a rally from the house of Bashir Khan Qureshi to his grave, they all laid floral wreath on the occasion. The party also arragned 20 to 25 thousand workers sitting space and established 80 ft long and 30 ft wide stage to pay tributes.
Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) acting President/Chairman Dr. Niaz Kalani, Secretary General Asif Baladi, Sanan Qureshi, Maqsood Qureshi, Akash Mallah, Sayed Munir Hyder Shah and other familiar personalities, intellectuals among Amer Sindhu, Asad Qureshi, Ahmed Mughal, Sheerin Aijaz and several leaders were reached in the public gathering stage near Mazar at Ratodero-Gawadar Motorway Bypass.
Chairman Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) late Bashir Qureshi could not survive a cardiac arrest in Sakrand and died at the age of 54. He was born on 10 August 1959 at Motan Pur Mohalla in Ratodero Taluka of Larkano District in Sindh.
Late Qureshi, joined Jeay Sindh Students Federation in the year 1976, he was greatly impressed by the thinking of Saeen G. M. Syed and worked hard to spread his message throughout Sindh. Later, he was elected as President of the Federation Tando Jam Unit in the year 1980 but after two years (1982) was elected as Central Vice President of the Federation.
Bashir Qureshi was also elected as Central President of the Federation in the year 1986, and re-elected in 1990. Jeay Sindh Quami Mahaz was formed than; he was behind the bars but was elected as Deputy Convener of the newly formed party, later elected as Secretary General of the Mahaz in 1996 and finally became the chairman in 1998.
JSQM Chief Bashir Khan Qureshi played a very active role in politics of Sindh, who earned great respect. He also played a vital role in mobilizing the members of the Federation and worked hard to strengthen the Federation. Bashir also took active part in the movement against Martial Law. Later, he was arrested on Jan 15, 1985 at Ratodero.
The Military Court awarded him one-year imprisonment in each two cases along with 10 lashes, which were implemented. Finally, he was set free in August 1986. Bashir was again arrested on August 11, 1988 after Sindhi-Mohajar riots.
He was jailed for 18 month; again, he was arrested on Jan 02, 1994 (PPP regime) for two years. Later he was arrested on Jan 17, 1999 on his way to attend the birth celebration of Saeen G. M. Syed and was set free in November 1999 after a struggle of 11 months. Bashir remained in prison for the total period of 6 years and 10 months. He spent best days of his life in prison.
He is author of his book entitled "Jaagya Junge Jawaan" in Sindhi language, published in 1989, which is collection of various speeches delivered by him. Bashir was awarded "G. M. Syed National Award" in the year 1997.
