SHC issues notices in Brenton Hostel Case

KARACHI, Oct 11: The Sindh High Court issued notices to the Advocate General and respondent Police officials in a Constitutional Petition by a former Administrator of a Brenton Carey Girls Hostel for action on a report of Inquiry into a Police raid. The Petitioner Mrs. Ghazal Shafique submitted that a Police Party, accompanied by Rev. Sadiq Daniel, who had failed to oust her as Brenton Carey Girls Hostel, Karachi, and his associates, raided the Girls Hostel and broke into her office. They undressed her and beat her up and inmates who tried to intervene. SHO Ghazala and sympathizers from among the Christian community rescued her and others after some time. Instead of recording the victims' complaint, the Frere Police registered a false case against them. Following concern showed by the Honorable President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Saddar Town Police Officer Sanaullah Abbasi was asked to conduct an inquiry into the incident. Another inquiry was held by Additional Inspector-General Mr. Nayyar Hasnain on the Home Department's direction. Both inquiry officers have submitted their reports and vindicated the statement of Mrs. Ghazala Shafique. According to her information, action was recommended against the Delinquent Police officials, Sadiq Daniel and his associates. Alleging that action on the reports was being delayed, she requested the Honorable Court to see the Inquiry Reports, order action on their recommendations and quash the falsely registered FIR against her and her sympathizers. Notices were ordered to be issued for Oct 26.
