Freedom of Press rally in Larkana threatened by influential group

LARKANA: May 4, 2012: (Nazir Siyal) It is fortunate that few working Journalists observed took out a rally on World Press Freedom Day here on Thursday, soon after they received threats and undue behavior by a governing body in Press Club Larkana sitting without any election for a long. A day before among a senior working Journalist Mohammed Ali Behleem requested and demanded took out a rally by Larkana Press Club to mark the Press Freedom Day, but he was refused and taunted about freedom of press, despite planning the event. Similarly, Thursday afternoon Larkana Union of Journalists (LUJ) and Sindh Sahafi Sangat organized a rally and took out protest for the rights of media men by some working Journalists here in front of Press Club Larkana. Later, occupied body member threatened senior Journalists that why they took out rally without permission on the day. Even present body member is the reporter of Eveninger of a local paper and became the member after signature of senior Journalists. It is also pertinent to be mentioned here that unfortunately Larkana Press Club occupied by influential group of media without election process for the years and there is no any freedom of press or respect for senior Journalists working in the field of journalism was observed. Journalists’ Unions and Associations observed press freedom across the country with seminars and rallies at different Press Clubs, aims to press freedom is the result of sacrifices of Media men. On the occasion, working Journalists community Nazir Siyal, Mohammed Ali Behleem, Qazi Aijaz, M. B. Abro, Mohd. Yaseen, Hafiz Mangi and others demanded that the government agencies are failed to provide security to media, while fake cases were registered against them. They said it is a shameful that Pakistan is most dangerous country in the world and ruling government neglects the media men to resolve their issues. SSS and LUJ demanded the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), Chairman Press Council of Pakistan, PNEC, APNS and other judiciary to take the matters and interfere the Press Club issues as well as to protect the working journalists; they are insecure in the different districts they demanded. They also demanded the authorities to take action of job security and implementation of wage board award.
