Bhopal, India: April 29, 2012. (PCP) The Isai Mahasangh, a Christian organization which spear headed the protest, has welcomed the Madhya Pradesh Government decision to exclude the unaided minority community run colleges and autonomous institutions from the Online Admission procedure in Universities and colleges. Isai Mahasangh had met Madhya Pradesh Governor and Chancellor of Universities Shri. Ram Naresh Yadav, they also sent memorandum to chief minister Shri. Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Minister for Higher Education, Shri. Lakshmikant Sharma, Leader of opposition, Shri. Ajay Singh, State President of the Congress Party, Shri. Kantilal Buria, etc. to address issue with urgency. They also informed them that this issue is violating the fundamental rights given in the constitution of India and clear judgments of the Supreme Court. If they are not addressed timely it might go to the High Court. Isai Mahassangh argued that the special provisions granted to Minority Run Educational Institutions under the Articles 30(1) and 15(5) of the Indian Constitution has been clearly violated because it does not allow any interference of the State Government into the affairs of the minority run educational institutions including admissions. They also said that these constitutional rights have been confirmed by the Supreme Court in the TMA Pai Foundation Vs State of Karnataka. Father Anand Muttungal, Coordinator of Isai Mahasangh, said, “we welcome the Government decision, it will smoothen the procedure of the admission. We thank the Governor and all those involved in to resolve this issue.” “These sorts of stand off between the Government and the minority community are growing time and again due to the lack of knowledge in the policy makers regarding the rights of the Minority communities guaranteed in the constitution and the Supreme Court Judgments. It will be of very practical if the Government consults the members of the minority community before they finalize such policies that can affect the minority communities.” “It is to be said here, that before the Supreme Court Judgment on Right to Education, while we went to address some of the problems regarding the admission procedure, the officials of the education department were not very cordial and were not ready to listen or sort out the issue amicably. This type of dealings has increased the gap between the minority community run educational institutions and Government departments.” We welcome the decision of the Government to exclude the unaided minority run higher educational institutions from the online procure.
