Christian parliamentarian from Sindh not feeling safe in Pakistan

Karachi: April 18, 2012. (PCP) Mr. Saleem Khursheed Khokhar MPA Sindh, Chairman Standing Committee on Minorities Affairs Sindh and President All Pakistan Minorities Alliance APMA Sindh Chapter has urged Interior Minister of Pakistan to provide him adequate security because he has life threat on speaking for rights downtrodden Christian community in Pakistan. Mr. Khokhar has submitted a written request with Interior Ministry of Pakistan for his security on April 17, 2012, detailing threats to his life. The Christian member of Sindh Assembly have informed Government of Pakistan “The undersigned would like to drawn your kind attention to the prevailing scenario / circumstances in Pakistan pertaining to the blasphemy law / accusation on the Members of religious Minorities particularly the Christian community in Pakistan” Mr. Khokhar added in his security plea “As you are aware that the important public officials and members of the Provincials and National Assemblies, even the Provincial Governors are not safe and are victim of this blasphemy law. Recently, the Governor of Punjab Hon’ble Salman Taseer was killed by one of the guard because he was favoring a Christian Lady namely Asia who has been sentenced to death on accusation of blasphemy of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H).” “It is further pointed out that recently in Provincial Assembly Sindh where the undersigned along with other respected members of the assembly moved a resolution condemning the act of division of Sindh in the name of “Muhajir Sooba” resultantly the all the mover of the said resolution have been harassing / threatening of dire consequences from the unknown criminal elements” Mr. Saleem Khursheed Khokhar MPA said “Keeping in view of the aforesaid scenario / grounds you are therefore requested to beef up security and I should be given protection by the State as promptly”
