ISLAMABAD: April 13, 2012. (PCP) As many as 40 sanitary workers of 15 educational institutes of Islamabad Friday staged a protest demonstration along with their families here against the non-payment of salaries since last 14 months. In a unique style, the protestors were carrying their charpoys and named their protest as ‘sharmindgi’ (shameful) march. The protestors demanded the government to ensure release of their salaries to make them support their families. All the protesting sanitary workers were employed in early 2011 by the Federal Directorate of Education. Addressing the protest gathering, Convener World Minorities Alliance J Salik said all the sanitary workers were appointed on the vacant posts already on the sanctioned strength of FDE, but unfortunately the Establishment Division was creating unnecessary hitches that a fresh NOC was required to regularize services of these sanitary workers. He quoted Syed Tajamal Hussian Shah, Director FDE (Admin & Coordination) saying that no fresh NOC was required as the 40 sanitary workers had been appointed to vacant posts already reserved for sanitary workers.“Only an ex-post facto NOC was required to pay 14 months salaries to the 40 FDE sanitary workers,” he said.He demanded the Capital Administrative and Development Division to take up the case with Establishment Division to seek ex-post facto/ NOC for the 40 posts of sanitary works in FDE to facilitate their salary issue. However, in response to FDE letter, the Establishment Division maintained that any future recruitment by Ministries/Divisions, their attached departments and offices shall be made only after obtaining fresh NOC. The sanitary workers who have been deprived of salaries have been working in Islamabad Model School (lV) G-7/3-3, Islamabad Model College for Girls G-10/4, Islamabad Model School for boys G-11/2, Islamabad Model School for boys Nogaze, Islamabad Model School (l-V) G-7/3-1, Islamabad Model School, No. 1, G-8/2, Islamabad Model School for girls Dhokejori (l-Vlll), Islamabad Model School, No. 2, G-6/1-1, Islamabad, Islamabad Model College of Commerce for girls.
