Jinnah’s Pakistan and Christians. By JRS Gill

In 1940, when Pakistan Resolution was passed in Annual General Session of All Indian Muslim League, the equal rights, religious freedom and protection of Personal of Christians was duly safeguarded in it but where is religious freedom now in Pakistan? The abduction, forced marriage, and conversion of Christian girls by Muslims have become a disturbing trend in Pakistan; in fact, it is estimated that as many as 700 girls are abused in this manner each year. In most of these cases, the authorities rarely take action and the girls are never returned to their families. If the girls are raped and become pregnant, it is nearly impossible for the courts to release them from their captors. If a girl does manage to leave her Muslim family and attempts to return to Christianity, she is considered an apostate and is liable to be killed, despite the fact that she was forcibly converted. According to Jonathan Racho with International Christian Concern, “Rape has been used as a weapon of persecution against Christian girls in Pakistan, where Christians are treated as third-class citizens. In the Muslim majority country, Christian girls are particularly vulnerable to these types of crimes because Muslim authorities are reluctant to protect them when their rights are being violated by Muslims.” Nazir Bhatti, president of the Pakistan Christian Congress, has stated that over 99.9 percent of rape cases involving Christian women go unreported. This is what the Christians of Pakistan are paying a high price for costing their vote in the favor of Pakistan when it was to come in to existence. What we got out of it I mentioned above in intro and details will be given in next paragraphs. Is this the Jinnah’s Pakistan? I feel shame to write these lines but what can I do this is the reality, Christians got much problems in Pakistan but as they went out of Pakistan other countries do not accept them also. There is so much injustice going on in Pakistan with Christians from the very beginning Christians are deprived from basic rights it is been mentioned that there will be equal rights but there is nothing like that at all. Now the situation has been changed into different direction discriminatory laws have been introduced which has made life of Christians very miserable. Countless innocent Christians have been under charged false blasphemy laws, families have been destroyed. I personally met with Asia Bibi’s family here is a brief conversation I had Though he is guilty of nothing, this Pakistani labourer is on the run - with his five children. His wife, Asia Bibi, has been sentenced to death for blaspheming against Islam. That is enough to make the entire family a target. They stay hidden by day, so we met them after dark. Mr Masih told us they move constantly, trying to stay one step ahead of the anonymous callers who have been menacing them. "I ask who they are, but they refuse to tell me," he said. They say 'we'll deal with you if we get our hands on you'. Now everyone knows about us, so I am hiding my kids here and there. I don't allow them to go out. Anyone can harm them," he added. Ashiq Masih says his daughters still cry for their mother and ask if she will be home in time for Christmas. He insists that Asia Bibi is innocent and will be freed, but he worries about what will happen next. "When she comes out, how she can live safely?" he asks. "No one will let her live. The mullahs are saying they will kill her when she comes out." Asia Bibi, an illiterate farm worker from rural Punjab, is the first woman sentenced to hang under Pakistan's controversial blasphemy law. Asia Bibi is innocent everyone knows when Punjab governor Salman Taseer spoke about her he was killed by his own body guard. Federal Ministry Shahbaz Bhatti was martyr because he always spoke against such controversial laws. This black and controversial law has destroyed so many Christian well to do and educated families. I cannot hold myself to mention here about Seraj family, I know this family personally because Robert Seraj is my friend we used to work together in Rawalpindi/ Islamabad. As he was charged under blasphemy he did hide himself in different part of the country. His parents died with this agony other family members were dispersed. One of his brothers was kidnapped. He suffered so much discrimination here in Pakistan, I lost contact with him its over 8 years now, I came to know that he flee from Pakistan to some European country he is in the UK or some other country but the information I got he is still suffering there too no job no status. My source told me that he is very bad condition. Here I would take this opportunity to write these lines to authorities of that country in which he is. He is a genuine and a true person; he lost everything even his family allows him to take a fresh start to new life and let him help others too whom is suffering from such terrible situation. In this atmosphere if he is sent back his life is under constant threat of life could be killed. This is not only for him but also all the Christian who were charged under blasphemy if they sent back their lives are in danger. There are so many cases like this which are not yet known to anybody it does not mean that if they get chance to get out of Pakistan then everything is finished not at all cases are still against them. This is not Jinnah’s Pakistan; his Pakistan was without discrimination, equal rights, and religious freedom. If Mr Jinnah comes back and see this injustice, lawlessness and Christian persecution will him please to know all this. He must be thinking he made a terrible mistake to get this piece of land which is now overtaken by terrorist, Islamic extremists.
