Syria and the terrorist threat from the opposition: many dead after latest carnage. By Boutros Hussein and Lee Jay Walker
Two deadly terrorist explosions rocked Damascus and currently it is known that 27 people have been killed in the latest terrorist attacks. This also highlights the reality that the international Sunni Islamic terrorist movement, which continues to kill indiscriminately in Iraq, is now spreading its hatred towards secular and multi-religious Syria.
At the same time, reports have stated that Saudi Arabia is sending military arms to the opposition terrorist network. This should wake people up in America because nearly every terrorist involved in September 11 came from Saudi Arabia. Also, it is known that many “ratlines” went much deeper. Therefore, just like September 11, the terrorist network and Saudi Arabian connection is indeed murky.
AFP in their article called Saudi sends military gear to Syria rebels: diplomat, it is stated that “Syrian Information Minister Adnan Mahmoud told AFP that Saudi Arabia and Qatar were backing “armed terrorist gangs” operating in the country and were therefore responsible for the resulting bloodshed.”
He continued by commenting that “Some of the countries backing armed terrorist gangs, such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar, are accomplices to the terrorism targeting the Syrian people… and bear responsibility for the bloodletting.”
Saudi Arabia is a nation which enforces all women to cover up or face being whipped and doesn’t allow one single non-Muslim place of worship. Also, just like Adnan Mahmoud comments about Saudi Arabia and international terrorism. It is interesting to note that two former senators accuse Saudi Arabia of being involved in September 11.
In an article by RT News, it is stated that “Both Bob Graham and Bob Kerrey, two former senators for the states of Florida and Nebraska, respectively, have filed statements with the Federal Court for the Southern District of New York in which they suggest that the Saudi government had a substantial role in the 9/11 attacks. Senator Graham previously served as chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence on 9/11 and Kerrey was a member of the bi-partisan National Commission on Terrorist Acts Upon the United States, commonly referred to as the “9/11 Commission.”
“Explaining his renewed involvement in the matter, Senator Graham says, “I am convinced that there was a direct line between at least some of the terrorists who carried out the September 11th attacks and the government of Saudi Arabia.” Graham adds that an “…issue deserving of further attention and investigation concerns the involvement of Saudi based charities in the provision of financial and other support to al Qaeda, and the precise character of the relationships between those charities and the government of the Kingdom.”
Therefore, you would think that Hillary Clinton and the Obama Administration would be concerned by the involvement of Saudi Arabia. Also, from a humanitarian point of view and this applies to the subjugation of women, the persecution of all non-Muslims, and the persecution of the Shia in Saudi Arabia; then surely the Obama Administration should be alarmed by the involvement of Saudi Arabia. However, even when senators and many others point the finger at Saudi Arabia regarding the issue of September 11, and in the full knowledge of the draconian reality of Saudi Arabia, it appears that the United States is once more focused on obtaining new military contracts with this oppressive nation.
Thankfully, Iraq, a nation where 60% per cent of Christians fled the American led invasion and which continues to suffer at the hands of Sunni Islamic terrorist networks like Al Qaeda, is making it known that they won’t tolerate the spread of international terrorism by using their airspace. Ali al-Dabbagh, a spokesman for the Iraqi government, commented that “Iraq will not permit the use of its airspace or its territory for the transit of any arms cargo to Syria.”
Iraq knows full well the reality of international terrorism because thousands have been killed year after year. Indeed, local Sunni Muslim militias turned against Al Qaeda after countless atrocities by this terrorist organization and other militant groups. Also, Iraq knows that instability in Syria and the spread of the terrorist network will be detrimental for everybody within the region.
On the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) website leading Christian leaders in Syria have condemned the barbaric terrorist attacks against the Syrian people. It was stated that “Heads of the Christian denominations in Damascus condemned the terrorist attacks which struck Damascus on Saturday, stressing that such acts are aimed at destabilizing Syria.”
“In a statement on Saturday, the Christian bishops in Damascus underlined the unity of the Syrian people to preserve Syria’s security and stability.”
"As we condemn this terrorist act, we would like to offer deep condolences to the bereaved families of martyrs and pray to God to save the injured.”
“Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, and Alexandria and Jerusalem Gregory III Laham condemned the twin terrorist attacks in Damascus, describing them as barbaric and criminal.”
The latest terrorist attacks are further reminders that Syria must hold firm against hostile forces which are intent on turning this nation into chaos and sectarian violence. Therefore, it is essential that all faith communities join forces along with the freedom of women in order to preserve the strength of multi-religious Syria.
“Also, the role of Turkey and terrorism must not be forgotten and the same applies to the invasion of Northern Cyprus and the violation of the sovereignty of Iraq because of the ongoing war against the Kurds. In an article published in The Jamestown Foundation it was stated that “For several years Kremlin spokespersons have identified Turkey as the primary source of foreign jihadi volunteers (always referred to as naemniky, “mercenaries” in official proclamations) fighting alongside their Chechen adversaries. One spokesman claimed “We keep killing armed Turkish citizens on Chechen territory” and another described Turkey as “a record breaker for producing foreign mercenaries killed in Chechnya.” [1] While skeptics might be tempted to dismiss such claims as mere bluster in light of Turkey’s well known secular tendencies, the evidence is mounting that Turkish volunteer fighters make up a sizeable component of the foreign element fighting alongside the indigenous Chechen insurgents in Russia.”
“While it is widely recognized that the 100-200 foreign jihadis fighting alongside the approximately 1,200 Chechen insurgents are led by Arab emirs (commanders) such as the slain Amir Khattab (a Saudi whose mother was Turkish according to jihadist websites), Abu Walid (Saudi killed April 2004), and Abu Hafs al Urdani (aka “Amjet” a Jordanian), the Russian government has consistently maintained that Turks play a prominent role among the foreign “terrorists” in Chechnya. [2]”
“To support their claims, Russian security services have produced Turkish passports found on the bodies of several slain fighters and have given the names and personal details of Turkish jihadis killed in Chechnya. Among others, Russian spokespersons referenced one Ziya Pece, a Turk who was found dead with a grenade launcher following a fire fight with Federal forces. Russian officials have also provided detailed information on 24 Turkish fighters killed between 1999 and 2004, and Russian soldiers in Chechnya have spoken of engaging a unit of 40 skilled Turkish fighters. [3] If this were not compelling enough evidence, Russian security forces have also produced a living Turkish jihadi named Ali Yaman who was captured in the Chechen village of Gekhi-Chu.”
Therefore, the arming of terrorists in Syria and the “ratlines” of Turkey and Saudi Arabia must be understood. After all, recent terrorist attacks in Syria are following an all too familiar pattern. This means that the Syrian people must unite behind their political leaders because the consequences are too dire to think about
