Pakistan Minority Movement pays tribute to martyr Shahbaz Bhatti

Lahore: March 2, 2012. (PCP) “We know that the blasphemy law will not be abolished but the struggle has to go on Anarkali during the memorial service conducted at the occasion of the 1st death anniversary of former Federal Minster for Minority Affairs Shahbaz Clement Bhatti. Catholic Minister was gunned down by the extremists in Islamabad on March 2,2011 who had opposed him to be the chairperson of the committee to call the Muslim and Christian religious leaders to sit together to discuss how to stop the misuse of this controversial law. Fr. Inayat Bernard said that the Holy Father Benedict XI had appealed to the mothers of the world to pray for the release of Asia Bibi still in the District Sheikupura jail in the Punjab province. After this appeal the former governor of Punjab Salman Taseer visited her and for that reason he was gunned down by his own body guard Mumtaz Qadri wo was honored by over 800 lawyers to be the hero. He told the 600 worshipers in the church that the life guard of the former governor became the life taker. The 5x3 ft four color picture was put in front of the altar where the members of the Pakistan Minority Movement garlanded the picture. After mass specially made hymn was played on the power point which is also available on the internet site of pakistanmm.com Salim Gabriel an official of the Pakistan Minority Movement( PMM) told the media after mass that it was the efforts of Shahbaz Bhatti to get 4 minority seats in the House of Lords Senate and 5% quota in the government jobs. He said that the struggle for justice will go on by their party and the religious and political leaders with the cooperation of people of Pakistan. The PMM had arranged 6 pots of rice for the worshipers for breaking their fast on the 2nd Friday of Lent. The candles were lit in front of the picture of Shahbaz Bhatti. Besides him the victims of blasphemy were remembered who sacrificed their life including Bishop John Joseph of Faisalabald being the first one to sacrifice his life on the 6th of May 1998. The Blasphemy law was imposed by the army dictator Zia-ul-Haq who wanted to please the Muslim religious leaders to extend his 11 years rule.
