Karachi: March 2, 2012. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC has demanded arrest of killers of Martyr Shahbaz Bhatti, who was assassinated on March 2, 2011, in capital Islamabad, when he was heading for cabinet meeting.
Martyr Shahbaz Bhatti was selected by Pakistan Peoples Party PPP as member of National Assembly of Pakistan on reserved seats for minorities and later elevated to post of Federal Minister for Minorities Affair when PPP formed government of Pakistan in 2008.
The killers sprayed 28 bullets on Shahbaz Bhatti and when assured that he is dead threw printed pamphlets on his dead body threatening same fate for anyone who shall dare to revise or amend or repeal controversial blasphemy laws in Pakistan.
The Pamphlets carried name of organization “Tehreek-e-Taliban Punjab” TTP and later same outfit accepted responsibility of killing Shahbaz Bhatti in phone calls to local news agencies.
The driver of Federal Minority Minister was forced to flee from car when killers started firing on Shahbaz Bhatti .
Martyr Shahbaz Bhatti was pushed on helm by President Asif Ali Zardari to compagian against blasphemy law after assassination of Salman Taseer, governor of Punjab in capital Islamabad by his police bodyguard on January 4, 2011.
Governor Salman Taseer met Christian mother Asia Bibi in Sheikhupura jail sentenced to death on accusation of blasphemy and sought pardon for her from President of Pakistan on which Islamic clerics issued ‘Fatwaha” for his death.
Nazir Bhatti said “PCC demanded formation of Judicial Commission headed by higher court justice to probe killing of Shahbaz Bhatti but government of Pakistan never paid any attention on it”
Nazir Bhatti said that one year has passed but killers of Shahbaz Bhatti are still walking free on streets of Pakistan.
PCC was first to award title of “Martyr” to Shahbaz Bhatti after his assassination in Islamabad as a tribute to his sacrifice.
