Rawalpindi: February 26, 2012. (PCP) The Sadar Anujuman Ahmadiyya Rabwah Pakistan have said that Ahmadiyya Place of Worship in Rawalpindi is under threat after removal of security barricades and surveillance cameras by Rawalpindi police which were installed on directions of law enforcement agencies after attack on worship places of Ahmadi community in Pakistan After the Lahore Massacre of 28 May 2010, the community took up certain security measures upon the advice of law enforcement agencies. The measures included placement of barricades, barbed wires fencing on the walls and installation of CC TV Cameras, to watch any possible threat of terrorist attack. The local police under the supervision of SSP and ADCG Rawalpindi have removed the cameras today. Barricades had been removed earlier. The Ahmadiyya Centre at Satellite Town Rawalpindi has thus been deprived of camera eyes keeping a watch on the approach roads. The community’s right of prayers and congregation has thus been exposed to grave danger. On Friday 24 February the police force was present as usual. Sharjeel Mir was present on the street and watched the worshipers leaving the place of worship. After the peaceful dispersal of the congregation of the Friday prayers, finding no other excuse, the trouble maker Shirjeel Meer with some students of Madrassahs came in front of Gate of 69 E Satellite Town Rawalpindi and started shouting and raising slogans demanding removal of security cameras. The police force with SHO was present and made no attempt to stop the miscreants. From 2:30 to 3:30 crowd was allowed to gather in front of the gate. SSP Arrived and did not even once order the unlawful assembly to disperse. At about 3:30 PM the SSP contacted the local Ahmadiyya Administration and asked them to remove the security cameras to appease the mob, which he had allowed to build. SSP was informed that these measures had been adopted on the directions of the authorities in the interest of safety and could only be removed on a written order from the District Administration. District Administration was also informed. At about 4:00 PM ADCG arrived at the scene and the police, under the supervision of the SSP removed the security cameras, despite vehement protest by those present in the premises. No written order was produced. Having been contact on telephone the ADCG said that he had not ordered for removal of cameras. The police was responsible for law and order and SSP had done it on his discretion. The SSP professed that he had done so to appease the mob so that they may disperse. The cameras were removed but the mob was not asked to disperse. Instead loud speakers came in and provocative and threatening speeches were made. The mob was allowed to carry on with provocation, intimidation and threats to demolish the Evan e Tauheed”. These threats, earlier published in the press were repeated. The unlawful assembly was allowed to offer prayers in the street in front of the gate of 69-E Satellite Town Rawalpindi. First the Police and authorities removed the barricades from the road, now they took off cameras without any valid reasons. One wonders, what would be the next step for them? It is clearly visible that step by step attempt is being made to deprive Ahmadis of their right to pray and congregate peacefully. The spokesperson of Ahmadiyya Community in Pakistan Saleemud Din said, “The law enforcement agencies appear to be pandering to the miscreants and bending under their pressure. The Ahmadiyya right of worship is seriously in jeopardy. The administration appears to lack resolve leaving the Ahmadis exposed and vulnerable.” Mr. Saleemud Din reiterated the resolve and the pledge that “despite threats to their security the Ahmadis shall never compromise their right of worship in front of the One and Almighty Allah”. To Him alone we look for succour and help. Let those in authority fulfill their obligations. May Allah grant them wisdom, foresight and strength.
