American Friends of Balochistan struggling to end genocide of Baloch by Pakistan

WASHINGTON DC: February 20, 2012. (PCP) Founder of American Friends of Balochistan and senior journalist Ahmar Mustikhan has taken a strong exception to the U.S. embassy statement and termed it violation of American legislative process under pressure from the infamous Inter-Services Intelligence. “As an American my head is bowed in shame over the unprincipled stand of the United States on Balochistan,” Mustikhan said in a Press release Sunday. The United States embassy in a statement Saturday said the U.S. respects the territorial integrity of Pakistan. “Members of Congress introduce legislation on numerous foreign affairs topics and these bills do not in any way imply U.S. government endorsement of any particular policy,” the embassy said, adding, “The Department of State does not typically comment on pending legislation, but it is not the policy of the Administration to support independence for Balochistan." Mustikhan said secular Baloch people are looking forward to a 50 Year Treaty of Peace & Friendship with the U.S. and Afghanistan, “but your poorly worded statement has dashed our hopes.” The A.F.B. founder hoped the embassy will come out with a second statement that says genocide is every one's business and territorial integrity cannot be used as an excuse to defend human rights violations. Mustikhan pointed out Pakistan is using the idea of territorial integrity to provide sanctuary to al Qaeda, Taliban, Jaish-i-Mohammad, Lashkar-i-Jhangvi and other terrorist organizations that show scant regard for human life and are determined to harm the U.S. interests. Balochistan was invaded and annexed on March 27, 1948 and is occupied territory in the eyes of Baloch patriots. “As such the question of Pakistan sovereignty does not arise in Balochistan,” he reiterated. He called upon the Obama administration and the State Department to focus its attention on ending genocide in Balochistan and involve all stakeholders, especially those whose services to the rule of law, democracy and freedom of Balochistan, have been above board. Mustikhan expressed concern that Shakeel Afridi, a hero of humanity is being treated like a criminal in a Pakistani torture cell and demanded his immediate freedom. “At this time my heart goes out to Shakeel Afridi who took great risks to make this world safer and played a big role in the capture of Osama bin Laden,” Mustikhan said, adding, “I am truly disgusted over your statement and your silence over the fate of Shakil Afridi, who is languishing in a Pakistani Gestapo and most probably facing inhuman torture, both mental and physical.” Mustikhan hoped the State Department would not undermine the legislative process that guarantees freedom and liberty not only in the U.S. but around the world.
