Stephen Gill to Participate in The Word on the Street Readings

Canada. Dr. Stephen Gill is going to present his poetry on peace in Toronto on September 25, Sunday, at 3:15 in the afternoon at the 16th annual The Word On The Street to be held at Queen's Park to celebrate the joy of reading and the rich diversity of the Canadian literary scene. According to the organizers the Word on the Street is Canada's largest outdoor book and magazine festival. On September 25th from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. more than 200,000 book lovers will descend on Queen's Park Crescent for an afternoon of free family fun for avid readers as well as for beginners. This year's festival promises to be the best yet. Stephen Gill has authored more than twenty books, including novels, literary criticism, and collections of poems. His poetry and prose have appeared in more than five hundred publications in Canada and abroad. In addition to English, he writes poetry in Urdu, Hindi and Panjabi languages. Some Urdu/Hindi poems of Stephen Gill from his collection JAZEERA, means island in English, have been composed and sung by prominent singers. The first collection of these songs, titled AMAN that means peace in English, have been released in an album from Canada. His second collection in a CD album, titled AMAN KI RAH (Road to Peace) has been released from Pakistan by the singer and musician Nazir Shad, but the Government of Pakistan has not allowed this album to go out of the country, though these songs are to promote peace. Stephen Gill has received recognitions, including honorary doctorates; and Laureate Man of Letters from United Poets Laureate International; Sahir Award of Honor from Sahir Cultural Society, Panjab, India; Plaque from the World Council of Asian Churches (Canada); Pegasus International Poetry for Peace Award (Poetry in the Arts, Inc., Texas,); The Best Poet of Peace Award for the year 1993 from Roger Cable 11 (Canada); and The Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal.
